42% from the line

It's not really that surprising given who shot them. Wagner and Cook shot 11 of our 19. They are what 60% guys. So instead of 6/10 they went 4/10.

The defense was much more of a concern for me. Turnovers second on the list.

We stayed in that zone way too long...

Turnovers were the #1 thing that killed us however.

3rd was the free throws... and yeah wagner and cook missed of course.. but so did everyone else including our best frt shooters.

I'm too lazy to look it up but can someone tell me where we stand within the conference regarding free throw % ??
I have no idea where we stand, we could be first or last, but I'm still curious how we rate.

I was saying before the game that I had a bad feeling that Jok chasing that record was going to bite us. Every time he went to the line you could cut the tension with a knife. If I remember right, he went 1 for 2 his last 3 times at the line. We could have used that point in regulation and I bet if it wasn't for that stupid record, he would have calmly walked up and drilled both.

I agree and it's such a meanless stat. Who gives a damn who holds a record like that? I'll take the win over meanless records like that. No one gives a crap until someone approaches the record and then it's forgotten after that.

Here you go. Look how many times we got to the line, imagine if we could shoot em.

I'm most surprised by Wisconsin

Jok helped that # out a TON too - I think it's definitely going to be a point of emphasis in the off season especially for the bigs.

You really wanna see the problem, we're #1 in scoring offense, but dead last in scoring defense.

It's the # 1 problem - and IMO probably the easiest corrected. These guys never have had to give effort on D in their lives. They have always been the superior athlete since the day they stepped on the court. A year in the system and an off season of work will make a HUGE difference.

That perimeter defense! I'm not going to beat a dead horse on JB but I do hope whoever that 2nd guard is that winds up replacing Jok can help shore this up. We were leaving them open all over the place and even bad shooting teams can hit 40% from 3's when they are wide open.

I dont think Iowa is superior. Better than Iowa teams last 11 years or so....for sure. Athletic compared 2 sweet 16 or even top 32... average at best in comparison...except point guard. The problem is thag even if average....they are young and lacking on some fundamentals. Some of the lack of blocking out is due to quickness....or lack of.

There is no doubt FM has elevated the level. Not to sweet 16 yet.

I agree with the sentiment that we need another perimeter defender next year. That's why I'm hoping Dailey & Williams stick around and play next year. Moss, Williams, and Dailey I think can all be good defensively. Williams needs to improve on Offense and Dailey is an absolute unknown.

As far as yesterday goes I thought the over-hedging by our bigs was the main thing that killed us. We were scrambling so much after that and could never recover. Cook in a word was atrocious on defense yesterday. Pemsl wasn't much better. That's why we saw Uhl and Kriener as much as we did. It's not all their fault though as we have always seen the over-hedging of bigs with Fran.

I meant b4 walking onto campus at Iowa - these kids for the most part, have all been the best player on their team and possibly the best players in the HS conference and state. They could rely on being better athletes then just about anyone they would have faced before they arrived here. Before this season, very few of these kids have had to really worry about playing D for second. That takes time to teach and I expect a big jump next year.

Those guys might be quick enough to be good defenders but we need better D out of the guys who actually get minutes.

I would say we need to be more athletic on the perimeter but Wisconsin seems to be solid defensively year in and year out and they've never struck me as freakishly athletic.

Things to work on this off-season, IMO, in this order:

1. Defense - real shocker.
2. Rebounding - Part of good defense is finishing the deal by getting the defensive rebound. Wouldn't hurt to get more 2nd chances on the offensive end, either. Really need a Reggie Evans type player.
3. FT's (mainly our bigs).
