4 star, top 100 recruit kicked off team because of Twitter

Of course what he did was in appropriate, but he may have had an issue with the coach and what he was told during recruiting. He just didn't approach the issue in the right way.

In before first "we gotta go after this kid" post.
BTW......no we don't.

Honestly I hope they don't as I would not want to see a kid like this represent Iowa. I have already been turned off twitter reading some of our recruits tweets as the way some of these kids tweet is embarrassing. I know a lot of it is just how kids talk these days but I would kick my kids butt if I caught them tweeting some of this garbage.

Wow, this kid must be some piece of work to get kicked off the Miss. St team. Didn't they have players fighting with each other in the stands at a tournament last year and they all stayed.

It looks like he was told he wasn't going to redshirt or would see time this year, but got redshirted anyways, to me at least. I'm not defending him, just saying my view of his words.

The article confused me, as it sounds like the coach was saying that the player ASKED to be red-shirted after their Euro tour. But then why would the kid be p*ssed about being red-shirted? Something gives me the feeling that the coach really isn't too honest at all.

Yeah, they were at a tournament and two guys got in a fight, one got suspended and the other transferred. They were best of friends going into the season, according to MSU.
Yes, one would have to be a piece of work to get booted from MSU, with the state of the program, they seem to be a little forgiving with issues.

It would be fun to watch Miss St and Georgetown play a game...they wouldn't make it through the first half before most of the players were thrown out of the game.

I've heard it said that without athletic scholarships, a lot of kids have an opportunity at college that othewise wouldn't.

I'd add, that athletic scholarships also put a lot of kids in college that probably shouldn't be.

Agree. A lot kids aren't ready for college until they're older and not kids anymore.

Maybe they should start having classes in middle school about how to keep your mouth/tweets/PC shut when you're PI$zed off. Squeeze it in as part of the Home Ec or Shop classes. Hopefully this kid leaned a lesson.

You have a point here, I would hope our schools are adjusting the communication courses that reflect the technology of the devices being used to communicate with.

I can't say I really blame the kid for the tweets. He was upset and from what I can tell... He has every right to be.

When you are an athlete being recruited to play college ball, you are making a decision about your future just like kids who aren't being recruited to play sports. The difference is that when you select a school, you are putting your trust in the hands of the coaches recruiting you and they have the power to really mess up your future.

I was in a similar situation as this kid. I was recruited by a couple of different schools to play soccer. I chose the school I did, because the head coach of the school that recruited me was the first coach to start recruiting me and he made me some promises... and he ended up keeping none of them. I ended up not playing there and after turning down those other schools and having a year pass where you are stuck at a school you don't want to be if you aren't playing your sport... You don't have those same opportunities and it is upsetting. I ended up not playing soccer anymore.

Just like me, this kid had other options, but he trusted the coach and the coach didn't stay true to his word. Coaches obviously watch recruits play before the pursue them... so for this coach to act like he was surprised about this kids strength/conditioning is ridiculous. He knew what he was getting.

To me it sounds like the coach is lying to his recruits and it is a shame, because there is really nothing the kids can do about it.

He probably shouldn't have tweeted such things for the sake of keeping other schools interested, because it definitely didn't do anything to help his situation, but he is human and when we get upset we make irrational decisions sometimes.

I feel bad for the kid and his mom. That is an unfortunate situation. Hopefully he can get back on track somewhere else.

STUDENT athlete. Kids need to take that distinction to heart. However, so does the NCAA. They need to raise minimum academic standards for athletes to keep kids out of school who are ONLY there for athletics. When I hear a kid picked a school because of a coach, it makes me cringe.

It is smart to stay away from a school because of a coach, particularly if you get a sense that the guy doesn't have your interests at heart. But, you should pick a school because you think that would be a great place to go to school.

One of the most mature responses I've seen here for awhile. Thanks for your insight.
