A mobile QB is a benefit if he can throw the ball well too.

If he can't you end up with a one-trick pony that defenses can just key in on. That's where I struggle with the height thing. Trying to see the field over O-lineman that are 7' tall with their helmets on is a problem and very, very few guys have done it well. We finally have a guy in Vander Zee for the next few years that we can hopefully take advantage of. I get that Hecklinski can probably move his feet, but can he also see guys 20 yds downfield well enough to make that a threat? If yes, fine. If not, not going to turn out well.

I still think they're gonna hit the portal if there's a decent QB.

Definitely agree with Phil over Norm. KF actually has a slight advantage in winning percentage 62.5%/56% and both have similar bowl record win percentages, but KF has been to 3 more bowls. (Hayden has a 6-7 record and KF a 10-11 record). So I think with Hayden vs KF, it's statistically a pick'em in my opinion. I enjoyed Hayden and he is definitely held in high regard. But I'm a KF guy.

Hayden had more of a flair for that southern charm and "aww shucks" persona. But the man was a genius in many ways under the cover of appearing to be somewhat of a country bumpkin. KF probably lacked that personality (especially with the media).

But it's overall hard to even pick. Somewhat how some divide up the GOAT convo in the NBA based upon eras. Incidentally, Jordan is the GOAT in my world. LOL. But we have been blessed with two legendary coaches for the last 46 years. That I think we can all agree on.

Hayden Fry is definitively the goat.

KF has won the most games, but he's also lost the most. Winning percentage isn't a good comparator...Kurt has by far and away had the toughest non-con schedule. Bar none. Hayden played against Penn State, Miami, and lots of others vs the North Texases and UMasses that Kirk plays. ISU only got decent in the last few years. There were a ton of seasons where Iowa had 3 guaranteed non-con wins. That can't be held against Fry.

Iowa football was an absolute garbage fire for an entire generation (outside of 5 good years under Evashevski) until HF took over the program and he changed everything. Attitudes, expectations, style of play, the Tigerhawk, the uniforms being modeled after a team that proved themselves to be tough winners. All the minute details that it took. He brought in great coaches and players who he could see were winners, including KF. He didn't want assistants who were happy where they were. He wanted assistants who had the drive and talent to move up even if it meant moving out.

There's no possible way you can look at W/L record to decide who's the goat. Even KF would say in a heartbeat the only reason he's not flying a cargo plane full of rubber dog shit out of Hong Kong is because of Hayden Fry and what he started here.

Chuck Long all the way down to Cooper DeJean turned into what they are because of what Hayden Fry started building in 1979. Without that none of this exists.
