3rd and 13 w/ 1:49......

A guy with a low post count complaining about the coaching? This is relevant to my interests.

I get that you are probably just trolling with this statement and to be an effective troll you have to "act" like a jerk and ruffle some feathers.

You probably think you're a swell guy and not a jerk in life away from this forum. I don't get what motivates someone to be a troll. Is your life that meaningless, uneventful and without purpose? If so that is truly sad.

Kirk had the right idea. Let the half end, go into the locker room and fix things, then kickoff and give up a TD 27 seconds later.

I just got home from the game and there was something that just made me boil over in anger right before the half. I know this is just the way KF is but I just don't get it and this kind of stuff happens all the time. PSU just had a penalty which nulified a 1st down (a 1st down that would have put them in field goal range). The penalty was a block in the back on a 2nd down so after the penalty was enforce PSU had a 2nd and like 16 or something like that. They then run the ball for a gain of 3 yds or so. The clock was @ 1:49 and I was yelling for the coach to call a time out. We had two left and that would stop the clock and if PSU ran the ball again we could stop them, call a timeout, and get the ball back with like 1:30 seconds left. Instead Kirk decides that it's best to just let the clock run out. KF would say, "well we haven't done anything to this point offensively so we just wanted to go the the locker room and figure out what we can change and improve upon." That's fine when you're down by 7, 10, or even 14 pts. but we were down 24 pts. Seriously it's not like it can get much worse than 24-0. Did this make everyone just as mad watching it on tv?

What you are overlooking is that Penn State was bordering on 4 - down territory again. They had been going for it practically all night. If Iowa had called timeout and stopped the clock, the risk would have been if Penn State had gotten the 1st down, or enough yards on 3rd down to warrant going for it on 4th down.

If that had been the case, they would have had their full compliment of timeouts to use toward another score, and Iowa would have already saved them some time on the clock by calling a timeout.

And lets face it, at that point, the Iowa defense couldn't stop them, so thinking we could force a punt when they kept going for it on 4th down was short-sighted.

I think B O'B did Kirk a favor by being content to let the clock run, and Kirk didn't do anything to stop it.

It was a good call.

Iowa was down 24-0.
Once they were down 14-0, got the ball back and couldn't counter-punch PSU it was over.

Odds are Iowa would have gone 3 and out, punted and then McGloin throws a 75 yd TD to a streaking WR while one of Iowa's DBs chases him not looking back at the ball as time expired.
