3 down is all but guaranteed now.

With Derby leaving the chance for Iowa to be able to somehow cobble together a defensive front went out the window. Now a defense with no all-conference performers and only 2 HMs will struggle to be able to find an even passable starting front unit.

I know it was a longshot thinking Derby might have been able to maybe been turned into a DE, but it was about the only shot left.

Now Iowa is really going to have to rely on TF DT recruits. And oh yeah, one if those hasn't panned out at Iowa since Colin Cole.

I was kind of being facetious when I first pointed out the KF 3 years 7 or under in wins, 3 years 8 and over pattern at Iowa, but now it is just weird.

I'm beginning to think you're pretending to be obtuse. I'm on to your games CAARHawk.;)

I think we should all panic and complain for 9 months. Seems like a productive use of our time.

I think we should all make jokes and just take the next two years in stride. Life is just too short to fret this stuff. Best just to kick back and be amused.

Hopefully this means you'll quit posting and quit being an Iowa fan.

Amen, I'll be drinking beer and watching games next year on saturdays regardless if Derby was on the team or not.

Any time spent on a message board, probably isn't productive. No matter if you are being optimistic or pessimistic.

Good point. But once in awhile it is fun talking Hawks with fellow fans. Lately it's been gloom and doom. It's been a tough month, but Derby leaving shouldn't be a reason for another meltdown. Some people actually seem to enjoy whining.

Sorry CM. I paid too much money in tuition at Iowa to forfeit being a fan. But having degrees from more than one school and also working at an FBS school means I don't have to live and die with what happens with Iowa football. So, I will keep talking about the team and probably keep annoying those that take it way too seriously.

Derby leaving has zero affect on next years team. zero.

I am going to have to disagree with you that his leaving won't affect this team. I think a lot of us would agree that special teams has been pretty bad these last few years, and we would also probably agree that Iowa is not going to be a team who can get away with poor special teams play and still win games next year. AJ was a fairly good special teams player and would potentially be a very good special teams player next year...at the least he makes the units better than they would be without him. And that could possibly mean the difference between winning and losing a game or two. His moving on...makes a difference in the wrong direction.

You've got a good point. I should have said defense.

This or the fact that 95% of Iowa fans said when he came here he wouldn't stay at QB including JD and many other "experts" that of course is thrown out the window now and the coaches have to some how be the reason the kid is leaving.

Look I think there are a ton of things the coaches need to get a hell of a lot better at, that long list doesn't include moving people to different positions with great success and includes a TON of guys that are now playing in the NFL.

But of course don't let that stop the Iowa fanboy's from overreacting about the departure of a guy that wasn't even on the two deeps.

Apparently no one has ever told you but………Someone who constantly and with extreme bitterness complains EVERY day on a message board about a sports team is taking it waaayyyy to seriously........;)

On a side note your really not very good at this leaving yourslef wide open stuff!

the two bolded parts of this post are 300% spot on. I never saw AJ as a QB at Iowa...but now I have actually read posts saying that he might have been the "next Tebow" if it wasn't for Ferentz and KOK....

Our fans are off the deep end on the message boards.

Here is the difference, I look at things that happen and make assumptions based on that information. Some assumptions are positive, some assumptions are negative. Some people can't take reading a negative assumption as anything but complaining.

But there is a difference, a complaint is a statement of dissatisfaction. I am not particularly dissatisfied with the state if Iowa football. I don't think they will be particularly good for the next couple of years, but I don't think it is anything to get up in arms over.

But, for some reason people like you seem to get up in arms at my stating my opinion, which indicates that you may be taking this all a bit too seriously.

That's fair. I think some of us are tired of all the negative, crazy overreactions from posters on this site. I may have unfairly lumped you in with this group.
