I've posted multiple times that Iowa's Men Basketball Team biggest weakness is that it has no upper class compared to the competition they play. It really comes down to the senior class. Here are a few comments about the prominent players:

1. Payton Sandfort's overall field goal percentage made is 40.3%. For comparison, Freeman is at 63.8%, Dix is at 52.4%, Thelwell is at 55.5%, and Harding at 44.7% .
2. Payton Sandfort's 3 point field goal percentage made is 34.2%, or 53 made on 155 attempts. For comparison, Dix is 42 made on 93 attempts or 45.2% and Thelwell is at 25 made on 58 attempts or 43.1% . If you combine Dix and Thelwell numbers they are at 67 of 151 or 44.4%, a full 10% better than Peyton Sandfort.
3. Payton Sandfort has 41 turnovers, which is second to Brock Harding's 53.

You can make your own conclusions about the reasons behind Iowa's lack of success. Sure the defense can be awful, but is some of that a result of recklessness on offense? Should Payton play fewer minutes? He has the most played.

Fans complain about Payton playing the 4, but Fran really doesn’t have a choice because he isn’t getting anything from Dembele and Traore.

The most productive lineup is when Harding and Thelwell are in the lineup together…which is a blessing and a curse. Harding leads the team in assists, but he is turning the ball over a lot now, and it is a problem.

Dembele not being able to take the next step and Traore being in Fran’s doghouse or whatever is going on there, is killing this team. More production from them and you could have Payton at the 3, slide Dix to the 2 and have either Thelwell or Harding come off the bench.

It seems like Traore might be turning things around lately. Hopefully that continues.

I’ve wondered all year about his minutes - especially in conf play.
He‘s crapped the bed on his senior season yet still plays most minutes while heaving bricks 3 seconds into possession, shooting 15% and turning it over / fouling while Fran waits for him to get hot. Thing is, who replaces him …
Pyce?? Only slightly better shooter but even worse shot selection and far worse on D and boards.
Team needs blown up and that includes fresh start at top. Time to rebuild.
