Well they rolled out their first installment of the playoff show. Its pure theatre. I don't know why they do it. I'll guess that its 1) for ratings and money 2) generate interest 3) as a trial baloon of their rationale.
More on #3 - we've seen that its difficult task filled with competing priorities to rank teams who don't have common opponents. The record? The resume? The eye test - and separate it all from bias and big brand reputation. - So givent all of this maybe it makes sense to go through this and let the public react - and learn from it.
