I like it, Tyler cook should be interesting. He could be the best freshman Iowa has had since Ricky Davis.

I hope the lineup looks like this...

Williams
Jok
Moss
Uhl
Cook

I want a lineup that has 5 guys who can all be scoring threats and I like having 3 guards as opposed to Uhl/Baer at the 3 spot as I think we take advantage of their skills sets more so when they are matched up with bigger defenders. Baer could provide some scoring off the bench. Wagner can provide some energy. Dale Jones is still a wild card. My other hope is Flemming can provide some bench scoring. My concern is at the back up PG spot. About our only option is going to be a true freshman unless Hutton can play that spot as well???

I like that lineup, however if Dale Jones is healthy I may slide him in for Wagner for 3pt shooting. I view Wagner and Cook as pretty similar players and really like Wagner's energy off the bench.

One guy that hasn't been talked about a ton is Brandon Hutton. I know he has said he wants to be the best defender in the Big 10, and after these last few games I think we can all understand the importance of defense. He is an strong and athletic wing type player that we really haven't had under FM. For that matter, I don't think we've had a slashing type player like Moss could be. Here's to hoping those two can play big roles next year.

I've gone back and forth on this and even said we should start Moss in a thread yesterday. The more I think about it, then we'd be stuck with the same problem as this year having three forwards Wagner, Jones, and Baer as your top bench guys, and not many guards off the bench. Plus two years ago I loved when we killed teams on the boards starting White, JU and Woody. Here is my revised lineup (set to change daily).

1. CW 6'6
2. PJ 6'6
3. Uhl 6'9
4. Dale Jones 6'7
5. Cook 6'8

Moss, Wagner, Baer first 3 off the bench. That is a long, athletic, and on paper solid three point shooting team. I'm excited for next year!

Moss=Sapp. Just a bit bigger. If Jones is healthy, he will start.

So not like Sapp? I'm just giving you a hard time, but I know Sapp's style of play would have greatly benefitted from being 6'6. On the other side Iowa could probably use Moss at PG next year if that were true, unfortunately I don't believe it is.

I'm looking at this:

1 - Christian Williams/Jordan
2 - Jok/Moss/ Hutton
3 - Baer/Jones/Hutton
4 - Uhl/Wagner/Kriener or Pemsl (whoever doesn't redshirt
5 - Cook/Wagner/Kriener or Pemsl

If UHL is asked to play the 3 I think we are in trouble. He needs to be download as I don't think he can handle playing the three.

I must be the only one who think Baer has a shot at starting next season.

I think he starts. I'm going with the guys that played this year until someone beats them out for playing time. Baer is a gamer.

Williams
Jok
Baer
Wagner
Cook/Uhl

I think we will see all kinds of lineups in the non conference. Anyone that isn't a RS will probably see playing time in some rotation...probably a couple of exceptions. I love Wagner...must think more of him than most. Jok, Williams and Wagner seem like locks to me.

I also question Williams starting at the point next season, he really isn't a true point guard. He is a small forward with some ok ball handling skills. OTOH going with Bohannon, a true freshman, sounds scary as well. I'm a little disappointed in how Fran has recruited the PG position the past couple of years.

Williams will be fine at the PG. With Jordan, Flemming, Ellingson all filling in. Marble played a lot of PG in his days as a Hawk. I think it helped him develop into an NBA player. In all reality Jok could play some PG and it would help his development as well.

I think people are drastically underestimating the difficulty of playing point guard. Jok can't play point. Any guard with an ounce of footspeed would get in his body and turn him over at an alarming rate. I'm not convinced Jok should even be a secondary ballhandler on the court.

We have serious concerns in my view on ballhandling. Even Williams didn't look great in his limited minutes when pressured at the top of the key. He looks much more like a secondary ballhandler to me (combo guard/wing) than someone we want directing the team.

You might be right on Williams, he just didn't look all that smooth when he was used at the point this season.

But I'm wondering if both Flemming & Ellingson will even be back next season. Neither of them contributed all that much this season, especially Flemming, those scholarships may be put to good use on someone else. Not all recruits make it, remember this senior class once included Kyle Meyer and Pat Ingram.

He then posts up a smaller guard. To many people think you can't play PG because your 6'5 or 6'6 and that is not the case.

College game doesn't have enough spacing to consistently post up-guards. The bigs guarding Wagner/Cook will just help, or teams will collapse off non-shooters, or play zone.

agree to disagree but there is plenty of spacing and shooters to go around. an if the help comes the player need to find the open guy.
