We will toss out a few '2013 Hawkeye Predictions' over the course of the next few days. I felt this first topic was a good way to lead things off; the quarterback battle.

Who cares. Greg Davis is still the OC.
Next brain-teaser please.

Great article Jon. I really appreciate the inside persepctive on a key question for our beloved FB program. I also appreciate the self depreciating humor at the end of the article. No matter how bad Rudock looked in practice I would have liked to see him get some snaps in 2012. JVB was so bad last year it is hard to believe that we won't be better at QB next year.

I know Mr. Miller will address this, but one of the glaring problems for Iowa this year was the lack of speed (or maneuverability or whatever you want to call it) of our wideouts and tight ends. We just weren't getting open in the Greg Davis system.

Who will catch the ball?

I am thinking that sokol and rudock will be co-#1s when spring practice starts with beathard as #2. My bet is on sokol winning the job. Rudock not taking any snaps could be showing that he has further to go than we know. Sokol has taken college game snaps and that gives him a legit leg up if he can figure out the offense. This will allow shimonek to redshirt and he and beathard will become the competition in 2 yrs.

Now to read the article and see how this compares to jon's theories.

It will be the player who gives Iowa the best chance for success.

Only Kirk Ferentz knows who that is.

Before reading the article I thought it would be Beathard as well. From what little I have seen of him (open practices, recruit videos) he seems to have a very strong arm. Hopefully he can get a firmer grasp on the system and add some more size over the next 8 months.

Jake the snake had a strong arm too! He could really zing those five and outs.

I don't remember him having a "strong arm" but now that I think about it I think he threw left handed but it looked like he was actually right handed because his throws were always in the dirty 5 yards short of the receiver and when he did throw down field, it never had a tight spiral at all.

At this point I really could not care less. By sticking with JVB and his poor performance the entire season without even giving a backup one snap, KF exhibited little interest in winning. I will reward his ennui with a bit of my own.
