2011 soley on JVB right now?

Looking at the two deeps and especially our offense anybody get the feeling that we could be really good or really bad depending on how JVB does? Our Rec Core is big and fast, we have a great O line, a RB that proves he can bust over 200 on a top 25 team. I hope JVB can do this and the pressure isn't too much. If he does well and is a threat this could be a fun year.

As long as he can be as good as Scott Tolzien, Coker and the o-line can take care of the rest.

While the QB is usually the make / break position on offense in any year, JVB is almost exclusively the "x-factor" for Iowa in 2011. Just has to be composed and manage the game -- all (limited) evidence suggests he will do that.

This will be a special season if he is simply efficient and consistent -- 2000 yds / 18 tds / < 12 picks (none for TD's). I really emphasize the consistency in every game. If he tosses any Rick-6's or more than 2 int's in a game, if he doesn't throw at least 1 TD in every game, it will have a huge impact because he won't have the dominating D that Ricky had to bail him out.

I actually think JW throws the best ball of the 3, or at least that's how I felt last fall. Obviously there's more to playing QB than throwing the ball. My concern with JVB is touch and accuracy or consistency in the aforementioned areas. However that concern may not be fair as I'm basing it on limited information in terms of actual game and practice time that I'm privy to watching. I have a sneaky feeling that JVB will be a little more willing to tuck and run. It will be fun watching our QBs develop.

I don't think the offense is going to drop off all that much. I think a playmaker will emerge opposite McNutt in the form of K Davis or KMM. OL is going to be one of Big Ten's best, running game should be clicking and that is a QB's best friend.

Iowa averaged 28.9ppg last year, and I think they can approach or exceed that this year.

Admittedly, there were some cupcake defenses on the front end (Ball State, ISU, E Illinois, Michigan), but a 2 touchdown drop is very troubling.

I'd be willing to sacrifice a few points on the overall average PPG if there was less variance around that average. On a more basic level, I would like to see a better 3rd down conversion percentage.

By and large, that drop-off coincided with the fact that our running game stagnated once ARob got concussed and when the weather got cold. Once the weather gets cold and the success of the long vertical passing game goes down ... Big 10 teams need to be able to rely more upon their running game (or a passing game that can play the surrogate role).

If and when this happens I feel comfortable with JVB throwing the ball.

I think JVB's 2011 value will be similar to Stanzi 2009. JVB will have better passing stats, but Stanzi was so good in the intangibles that season.

I'm very optimistic for this season.

IMO the coaching staff will work on picking up the blitz and blitz recognition and if they get that down I'd say JVB will have afield day with the box overloaded. From the very beginnng JVB has seemed better at the quick release and accuracy in the short game.RS was a pretty good QB but his int's his Jr season were mostly on short routes in traffic. He had a slower realease and that caused him problems.

This is my gut feeling as well but I'm trying not to dump undo optimism on the kid.That happens all too often as it is and definately think it affects the players sometimes.

I agree with this not to mention our FG kicking game will bet better IMO.

I think this season its more on the offensive line. If they produce then we can go either way on teams(run/pass). I think another big part of this is if the coaching staff uses what they have. If KOK is calling a good game and our OL is doing their job then Vandy will look like a stud. If all that happens and Vandy does what some of us think he can do then we could have a very dangerous offense.

With the QB, it definitely can imo. Sure you need a good line, check, a good running game, check and a good receiving core, check. The only question right now is JV.

Based on the information of actual game time we've been privy to watch (o.e. Ohio State) touch and accuracy is the one thing I wouldn't worry about with his passing game. He threw the best pass by an Iowa QB i've seen since drew tate on the slant for a td in the ohio state game. He throws more accurately than Stanzi (in limited game action admittedly). He also made better choices than stanzi in the one 1/2 games we saw him in. For instance how many times did he get mad props in the nw game and from me yelling at my tv in the shoe for running out of bounds, or throwing the ball out of bounds rather than taking sacks or forcing it.

If he manages the game and throws like he did against both northwestern and ohio state in the one year we saw him play significant ball, he'll be better than stanzi ever was, this year.

JVB is literally the last thing i'm worried about on this team coming into the year. i think the safety position and the punting is a much bigger concern and a lot bigger question mark.
