By the third game you will here people saying JVB should have been playing last year.
With the QB, it definitely can imo. Sure you need a good line, check, a good running game, check and a good receiving core, check. The only question right now is JV.
This is my gut feeling as well but I'm trying not to dump undo optimism on the kid.That happens all too often as it is and definately think it affects the players sometimes.
If you look at last year in a little more detail, it's a little scary. Up through the MSU game, Iowa averaged 34.1 points a game. After MSU, the average is 20.6. Admittedly, there were some cupcake defenses on the front end (Ball State, ISU, E Illinois, Michigan), but a 2 touchdown drop is very troubling.
I'd be willing to sacrifice a few points on the overall average PPG if there was less variance around that average. On a more basic level, I would like to see a better 3rd down conversion percentage.
