2010 Minnesota Mr Basketball asking out of LOI

Boston College (that I know of) hasn't let him out yet, but word is Noreen is looking to get out of his LOI.

Not sure he's the type of player for Iowa, just thought I'd drop some Minnesota news.

(And here come the Tucker posts) ;)

Man! Do these kids even think about what they are agreeing to when they sign an LOI?

Like Iowa, BC fired its coach as well.

I'm sure most kids know they are agreeing to attend a school coached by a certain individual who employs a certain style of basketball. If that coach is fired, I don't blame anyone for wanting to re-examine their options, as the new regime may not be a fit.

What do you expect of them? They signed up for one thing and are getting something completely different. BC also has a new coach. Do you want all players to wait to sign a LOI until spring?

The whole argument about you sign with the school is not true for about 80% of the recruits, if not higher. They sign where they have a great relationship with the coach and where they think they fit in with the program that they are about to join the best. It doesn't matter if it's basktball, football, soccer, golf, or softball. That coach leaves and it changes things completely.

Just goes to show that NCAA does it right for football by now allowing an early signing period. Maybe this is the argument that the NCAA needs to eliminate the fall signing period for basketball.

For the vast majority of prospects, the fall signing period is a blessing. They can have a normal life over the winter. Already committed players don't have other schools all over them trying to negative recruit. It's just the commits to schools that fire their coaches that have trouble.

There is a reason Ferentz wants an early signing period.

I like the early signing period, it helps out schools and players, esp coming off (normally) a busy AAU circuit.

From a BC site, it said that the new coach was running off the new recruits as they didn't fit his style. Kind of like what Crean did when he took over at Indiana. Thus, apparently don't blame the recruits in this case.

Captain Kirk would like to see a early signing period in football as well.

And like Tubby did in MN and Huggins did at WVU.

An early signing period? Football players sign in February and are on campus 4 to 6 months later.

Or did you mean "not allowing an early signing period" instead of "now allowing an early signing period"?

I am saying no early signing period for either. Football doesn't have this issue of opting out of LOI's because all coaching changes are made before they sign. BB needs to take a look at this, it would keep all this crap from happening.

Hmmm, seems like the Gophers don't want anything to do with him, so I can't see why we would want him at Iowa when they don't want him in Minnie. Many on the Minnesota board speak of him as overrated, and probably more suited to be a mid-major.

Anthony Tucker and Andrew Brommer? Opps, a couple years to late.

Or Call at UK.

Good coaches do this. I know it seems cutt-throat, but you bring the guy in to rebuild. Successful coaches rebuild quickly. Less successful coaches try to do it with the last unsuccessful guy's players.

I am glad the coaching staff is checking with Minnesota first to see if someone is a good player before going after him. I am sure they find these message boards helpful.

Tucker was a talent, waste of talent, but still a talented basketball player.

I still like Brommer, he showed quite a bit of improvement last year and you can tell he is working hard on his game. You never know about those big men, some develop late.

Most D1 players are talented and there is nothing wrong with playing at the mid major to low major level. As with most of Licks guys these two should be playing at that level and not the Big Ten.

I saw Noreen play this winter. I for the life of me couldn't figure out why an ACC school offered this kid.

You must forget that Tucker was committed to Minnesota before he backed out and signed with Iowa?

His attitude and drinking is why he is not at Iowa. Tucker had the talent to play in the Big Ten.
