Man, I predicted a soph slump early on for Basabe, but never thought it would be of this magnitude. He will get it going, but it needs to be sooner rather than later for you.

While the stats don't show it, he was a little bit better today. Again, he was saddled with foul trouble very early and couldn't get into a rhythm. But he was hustling more than he has been and kept several balls alive with tips to teammates. It is only a matter of time before Mel gets back to full force.

He tweeted something like:
"thankful for my teammates for picking it up for my sub par play lately. Gotta do better" something along those lines.

He knows he can so better. I really wish people wouldn't rip on him so much. It's not like he doesn't care.

As did I.

Thought there would be a slump, but, like you said, not to this level. Truly amazing how poorly he's played thus far.

Mel is a "fat cat." How does he only get 2 points a game. Everybody talks about the weight he gained that was going to help him in the post. I think it has made him slow!

Last year he had Cole playing next to him. He was someone who was able to draw enough attention to let Mel do his work. Now we have **** playing next to him and it shows. Cole wasn't all world but he was a lot better than what we have now.

According to Fran, Mel is NOT a "fat cat." The added muscle on his frame this season is slowing him down, and according to Fran, he's having to learn how to use his body w/ the additional weight but is in "phenomenal shape."

Maybe stick to the wrestling forum.

If you believe that garbage, maybe stick to the football forum.

He's never had any real basketball skills. And when a guy who relies on his energy and athleticism to get garbage points stops being athletic and energetic, well you end up with a two point one rebound a night guy like Mel.

This x10,000. I'm not letting Mel off the hook. But if you're an opposing team, why would you ever hesitate to go into the lane or crash the boards against us? Can you think of one time this year we've knocked a guy down inside-- not in a dirty way, but just with a good, hard foul? Mel isn't a center, and yet he draws the sort of defensive attention a dominant center would. Neither he nor the rest of the team are good/saavy to take advantage of that yet, and we don't have an enforcer to back him up.
