2 Points from our freshmen class

You are describing Ogelsby 2.0 to me... I'm not basing my 2 cents worth off of just this last game either. All he can give the offense is the catch and shoot role. He's not going to dribble drive and create either for himself or a teammate. I don't think he can even dribble once or twice like Jok can and shoot very well. Fran talked much the same of Ogelsby and the numbers just don't lie. He was mediocre at the one thing he was out there being asked to do... Ellingson isn't a defensive stopper either. He's not going to rebound. I just think Fleming adds more of an all around game along with stretching the floor with the ability to catch and shoot. Iowa's future with that role for this year should be Fleming not Ellingson. Flemings role down the road hopefully will be much like Gatens was.

Where do you get this from? Fleming has looked pretty rough when he's seen the floor this year, very slow on the defensive end and hasn't shot well and turned the ball over quite a bit in his limited usage on the offensive end.

It's a legit concern. The good news was Uhl stepped his game up a little bit against Florida State but he's been hit or miss as well.

The other concern is that we have 2 starting PGs. I'm not sure AC scored in the 1st half against Florida State. Mike actually shot the ball well but just kept turning the damn thing over. We need both of them to find ways to contribute in terms of scoring. We need Mike to have 10+ points consistently. AC needs to average probably around 6-8 points or so.

Not going to happen. After his freshman year I thought he would be a 15 ppg type of scorer as an upperclassmen, but he what he is at this point and he's never going to be a consistent double digit scorer. He's a very reluctant 3-point shooter, doesn't get to the line much and struggles finishing. That doesn't add up to a lot of points.

It's early December so thinking about next year is lame

Well we'd better make it to the dance this year. Fran needs to have a third consecutive dance bid to build up good-will-equity with the fans because I'm afraid we're going to be a bottom four team in the B1G next year with so many young guys playing.

You're entitled to your opinion but I have the opposite conclusion when I watch Fleming and Ellingson play.

Reasonable minds can agree to disagree. Fran clearly agrees with you for now as well. Time will tell. I thought Fleming was able to do a heck of a lot of good things at the highest level of HS ball there is and I think with more time on the court he'd be able to contribute more. The idea of him not playing at all for games at a time just stinks. I don't see the point in him not redshirting for what little bit his role seems to be. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iyNMQkjptHY

He looks pretty athletic and shows all the traits I mentioned earlier here against the best HS has to offer.

As I recall this class was rated at or near the bottom of the Big Ten. Florida State had a number of 1st year players contribute while I think Wagner might have been the only true freshman to play. The ranking of this class is looking more and more accurate. If we dont start getting something more than 2 points from the new guys I dont see us having enough depth to make it to the bubble, and I dont even want to contemplate next year.

May be wrong about this class and hope that I am but I dont think so

Yes.. of course... you're absolutely right... All Freshmen should average a double double.

Next year does seem a little scary, I expect a step back.

But not really concerned about this year. Wouldn't be the end of the world if the rotation was reduced to 7 or 8 players.

Agree with this. I'd be perfectly comfortable playing our 8 best guys and not go any deeper than that unless their is foul trouble. Next year scares me quite a bit though

IMO your posts in this thread are all completely inaccurate. Ellingson is more athletic, has a higher basketball IQ and has shown more upside to date. I think Fleming will be good but he's behind Brady right now. And Ellingson put it on the floor and went by the defender for an easy layup last night. The announcers even commented on how good he can be if he adds this element to his game.

Lots of stupidity in this thread. Never understood the need of some Iowa fans to bash their own players. Ellingson has already driven the ball to the basket and finished shots more often than Oglesby did in four years. Fleming is going to be just fine and a solid contributor. Wagner has already proven his worth. The rest of the freshman will be solid players once they earn their shot at some floor time. McCaffery has proven he can recognize talent earlier than most coaches. Settle down and let these young guys evolve.

I actually have been pretty pleased with the freshmen that have played to this point. Not surprised to see Ellingson getting more minutes than Fleming to this point. He's had a redshirt year and is more comfortable with the sets. Fleming will be solid to imo. Wagner is as advertised and ahead of schedule from what I expected. He has a frame that allows him to play bigger than he is, plus he knows exactly what his job is. The most pleasant surprise for me has been Baer...wow. He's smart and not scared. Really like his game. I was finally able to get a glimpse of Williams last night and he is smooth. Still pretty timid though and needs to bust out of his shell.
