2 main accomplishment Fran

can hang his hat on,
The 1st is last year they won 1 road game in BT play, this year they have won 2 with 2 more road games to go.
the 2nd which in my opinion is a bigger feat they have won 6 conferense game, the last tine Iowa accomplished this it was Lick's 2nd season with 5, and Iowa has 4 more games to go, also that was Lick's best season with 15 total victories, 17 total victories will be the next benchmark and we have to go back to Alfords last season when he finished at 17-14.
we stand a chance to have a better record than we have seen in 5 years

At the risk of making a basketball to football comparision, I was thinking earlier that Fran's first 2 year's have greatly resembled Ferentz's first two years as our coach:

Year 1:
Kirk 1-10 (0-8)
Fran 11-20 (4-14)

Year 2:
Kirk 3-8 (3-5)
Fran 14-13 (6-8)

Fran's year 2 is yet to be completed, but in both cases, each coach had a pretty rough time of it in year 1.

In year 2, even though the W/L records were not drastically improved, you could see that both teams were improving, won more games in-conference against better competition, and were more competetive in defeat.

Now, hopefully the next couple years of Iowa Basketball will continue to improve in years 3 & 4 like it did for the football program. :D

Totally agree here...was just thinking of that after writing the football article and tweeted something similar...now, just finish

also he has 2 Top 100 players coming in for his 3rd season, Lick never came close, and i don't remember if Alford had a top 25 ranked recruiting class, to my knowledge TD had the last Top 25 class in his 2nd to last season with Joey Range and Thompson fondly remembered as the bucket.

Alford's second class was a top 10 class.

i forgot that i knew he had some good recruits, but not in one class, Frans incoming class would higher if Woodbury had stayed a top 50 recruit and the combination of Clemmons, Meyer and Ingram were not 2 * recruits.
it would possibly be very close to top 10 rankings, but i will take it as is, because it fill some big holes at the pt and center spots

So what youre saying is if his recruits were better than he would have a better recruiting ranking?

Hmmmm......are you sure?

all 5 were dropped in the ranking after committing and signing with Iowa, without playing another minute of BB Woodbury dropped from 42nd to 51st and 7t best center to 12th best center, Gesell dropped from 72nd to 84th and from the 8th best pg to the 15th best pg.
Meyer and Ingram were dropped from 3* to 2*, Clemmons went from the 52nd best pg to 84th best pg overall. allthis happened before they played another minute of BB.
Other than signing with Iowa i see nothing that could have caused them to drop in the individual rankings,
Clemmons by the Michigan people have him as the #1 pg and 3rd best player in the state, Meyer by the Georgia people list him as a top 5 Player in State, no particular order is given, i can't find a state ranking on Ingram, but people on the Iowa sites are excited about him, another couple notes on Gesell, he avg over 30 ppg in a toutney against some of Arizona's best and the sports writers in Arizone compared him to Mike Bibby, that is some comparison, then you add in Gesell is on the verge of being named Gatorade POY in Neb for the 3rd straight year, not even Andre Woolridge did that, and he was a Top 40 recruit coming out of HS,
now then you can take it for what its worth, but in my opinion they are all under rated by the recruiting services, do you really think the #1 pg in Michigan is no better than 84th nationally?
not to mention a 2*
ranking may not mean much to some people but it does to the media types, even White says he was miffed by being under ranked and overlooked and is a tool in motivating him. I just hope the 5 that are coming in to play with the same motivation

Oh well, let the rankings say what they want. The recruits are who they are.. They will have the chance to prove themselves at Iowa. Of course, if Woodbury would have signed with UNC, he would've been raised to a 5* recruit. :D

Another important progressive step is making Carver a hostile place to play for visitors. We are now 4-3 at home...with wins over Michigan,Minny,IU and PSU. Hopefully we can finish strong and win over Wisky and NW...that would make for 6 straight home league wins in a row....that is a real step to returning to homecourt nastiness. A 3 point loss to Purdue in our first Big Ten game of the year and a close loss to Nebraska after a 9 day layoff were competitive games...only the loss to OSU was a blowout. Not bad. Next year....do better,Hawks!

Reiner and Worley were rated higher, respectively, that Woodbury and Gessell.

All 5 of Iowa's recruits are underrated??? Can't you see how absurd that sounds, not to mention incredibly stupid.

i didn't say that, i just pointed how they were dropped by the recruiting services namely ESPN, i then pointed out how they stood in their respective states, but to critizes my stance twist it any way you want, but you tell me how the #3 overall player and #1 pg in Michigan, is only a 2* and 84th at his position, and how does a kid that is about to earn his states Mr. BB and 3 time winner of the Gatorade player of the year for his state can drop in the rankings, then you explain to me how Woodbury the winner of NBA Top 100 MVP can be dropped out of the Top 50 and the 7th best center to 15th best center, all this happened after the Summer Evals was over and before anyone played another minute, you tell me how and why then i might accept their new ratings

Had Gessell and Woodbury gone to one of the sweetheart schools--North Carolina, Duke, Ohio State, some east coast teams, they each would probably have risen in the rankings rather than dropped. The media thinks that if someone signs with North Carolina, they HAVE to be at least a 4* if not a 5*. Sign with Iowa and you suddenly become a 2 or 3*.

The telling will be how they perform once at Iowa. Worley never panned out and neither did Reiner. Or it was coaching? I certainly hope that Meyer and Woodbury are better than Reiner and Worley...
