1987 Elite Eight Game Iowa vs UNLV

I disagree. The players are better conditioned so the game moves faster as they move faster. 1-on-1 skills are more impressive.

But, the team play has dropped. Take out the Euro guys and you're left with the products of the AAU generation.

Players are more athletic, but their games have become narrower and narrower.

Actually you've strengthened my argument as to why the NBA is better. The top Euro's now play here, which means the talent is actually higher.

How can you say that players games have become narrower? Kevin Durrant is 6'10, can post up, shoot the three, and can bring the ball up the court. Dirk Nowitzski is a 7 footer than can play the shooting guard, center, or anywhere in-between. When Lebron adds a low post game he will literally be able to play 5 positions.

Today's NBA athletes are just like today's NFL athletes. They are bigger, stronger, faster, and better trained than the players of previous decades.

It's easy to see why...

Too many 1 and Dones. It hurts both the NCAA and NBA.
The NCAA doesn't get to keep the high talents in their sport, thus diminishing the overall talent. The NBA gets the high talents when they are only 19 years old and aren't ready for the NBA yet, thus diminishing the overall talent.

Exactly. Try watching the NBA draft and see how many names you recognize. I think that is a huge problem the league has right now.

BJ was the goods. Somewhat overlooked when discussing the best Hawkeye basketball players. In my opinion he would have to be at least in the top ten along with Roy Marble, my personal favorite.

I remember Bobby Knight saying that BJ was the best point guard in the Big Ten just before a game at Indiana. Predictably, BJ had a subpar game. Knight loved The Art of War by Sun Tzu.....

Narrower in the sense that a lot of the US-born players seem to be more skilled one-on-one and less skilled five-on-five than the 70s and 80s generation who had four years of college (for the most part).

On the other hand, NBA defenses have really gone far -- with some coaches. I love Chicago and what Boston does with their zones.

I'll take this ball movement, movement off the ball, and decision-making over the current NBA -- [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NJ7YfZxjSG8&feature=related[/ame]

of course, I may have lousy eyes for this
