'19 In-State QB Max Duggan Enjoys Meeting with Ken O'Keefe

<<If Martin was never coming to Iowa, then that really is an indictment on Iowa's program>>

Or an indictment on him. Sleepovers With Coach stopped being cute when...well, it's never been cute. While I don't think he took part in that particular "event", the fact he'd go to their "barbecue" certainly has me questioning his thought pattern.

<<Please, UM is nowhere near being any sort of a passing offense program>>

OK
I believe swimming also had some weight on the decision. Apparently harbaugh is all in on him swimming at UM.

Dude, swimming at Michigan is different than swimming at Iowa. That Michael Phelps guy seems to agree. Pretty obvious.

ok. swimming at UM was more important than playing football for the team you grew up being a fan of...that's in your home town. Look, yes UM has a really good swimming program. But unless OM wants to be in the Olympics vs the NFL, his decision was based off of football, mostly. Iowa's horrible passing offense last season (with SR qb) had alarms and red flags all over it. Hey, I'm not saying he made the wrong decision, I'm saying the decision was made easier because Iowa's horrid passing offense (89th nationally).

If that's true, it's just stupid thinking. Our passing offense sucked because our receivers sucked. If he's as good as he's supposed to be, he could remedy that. When we have good guys like McNutt and DJK, they put up good numbers.

PC, OM didn't know GD was leaving and KOK was coming back. Maybe that would have made a difference, maybe not. But 5 years of GD's passing offense was, in fact, more than enough to scare away WR talent.

Good point. The offense was worse than the talent.

GD retired at the beginning of Jan. Oliver committed to Michigan on Jan 30th. Brian was already named the new OC as well.

It may have been too late to make a difference, but if he truly loved Iowa sans the offense, it probably would have made the difference. Kinda like the Uthoff situation. He wanted to be a Hawk bad but the team had fallen so far, he just couldn't do it. Once they showed promise, he came back. My guess is we could go to a spread offense and put up 40 per game and Martin isn't coming back.

I'm predicting he will be a grad transfer to Iowa in 3 years.;)

Martin chose Michigan so no sense in reliving the past. He would rather stand on the sidelines in the maize and blue than play a large role on offense in black and gold. It is what it is.
I am hearing Harbaugh already stated Martin isn't redshirting. Sounds promising for him.

So he grew up an Iowa fan, went to almost every Iowa game while he was being recruited but decided he wanted to go to UM just to get out of town? That is entirely possible, but if you believe in using logic, he could also have seen iowa throw for less than 100 yards 4 times and knew there would be a brand new qb with almost zero experience this season. We have to remember that this kid blew up into a top level receiver....not blocker, or run down the field guy.

You are right that I am speculating because I don't know him. But I'll say one thing; the history of top WR's from the state of Iowa going to UM is an indictment of the Iowa passing offense.

Or maybe an indictment of possible "irregularities" in Michigan recruiting...

Puhleez. Did you just discover HN today? Sports message boards are filled with speculation and assumptions. Like the assumption that he didn't want to play in the same town he has lived in all his life.
Yep... so what? Does that make it right? You were prolly in diapers when I started following Jon and HN - prior to Scout.

this could actually be real competition for Iowa. we need to continue throwing the ball to convince Duggan. My suspicion firmly is that it's Iowa; depending on whether Iowa throws for 250+ every game, or 125 per game.

Now hold on here, just a second... Max Duggan news on a Max Duggan thread? That's nonsense, I thought we were rehashing Ol---- Ma---- for the umpteenth time!
