'18 Kentucky Wing C.J. Fredrick commits to Hawkeyes

Probably not but why recruit kids that are willing to? That probably speaks to their abilities and other options.

Devyn Marble had fewer offers than Fredrick. So did Aaron White and Nicholas Baer. There are others than have had success under Fran here. What did you say about their abilities when they showed up?

This kid's uncle is close with Fran. He played for him at Notre Dame. C.J is willing to walk on for a year and then go on scholarship. It's a unique case. Asking that Fran instead go after AJ Green, who wouldn't be willing to walk on is asinine.

If Fran likes him, I like him. Fran has more than proven his ability to recognize talent. Strange that an offer sheet from four Big Ten schools including IU only has a two star rating. Star ratings mean next to nothing, just surprised at the rating.
Based on our scholarship situation, he is hardly a fall-back recruit.

I think the Indiana offer came from Crean's staff, which had a pretty good track record of recruiting.

That is the way Cy5656 trolls. The throws out his hook and then rolls with it. He will probably bash on Fran for "letting" AJ get away, when we all know Iowa never has a shot at AJ.

I'm not sure what else we could ask for as fans. There isn't even a scholarship for the kid, but Fran lands him over Penn St., Nebraska and Xavier. Don't forget Crean offered the kid as well, and Crean doesn't have to reach on kids, he recruited at a very high level.

Excellent point!!!! Fran is building something special. Just hope the odor of success doesn't makes its over to that Catholic school toward the northeast.

CJ is pretty much a part of the 2019 class now scholarship wise and after watching his tape he doesn't really move the needle for me but I'll trust Fran on this one.

Weird, Iowa landed a kid and ole #1 Hawkeye Fan 56 here wishes they had landed a different one.

I'm sure I'm the only one who isn't jumping for joy after landing a two star recruit. Like I said I will trust Fran on this one, especially because of the timing of it.

The guy is only going into his senior year of high school. Iowa, among other schools wouldn't of offered him a basketball scholarship unless they felt he has high potential. The offer, along with all the other offers, is based on potential.

I wonder if Iowa will have any transfers after the trip overseas. If a guy was considering transferring, and he had to sit out a year, missing an overseas trip probably would try and be avoided. Hopefully, everyone stays.

Looks like Ellingson 2.0 to me. Which is great. Between the Wieskamp kid and CM they aren't in bad shap at the 2 guard spot going forward. (BTW Moss is only a sophomore peeps) Having a kid that isn't going to over dribble and try and force things is kinda what we look for from the backup 2 spot. We want shooters that space the floor and he sure seems to fit that bill.

Yeah that's a good observation. Anyone that may have had that thought probably would have wanted to stick around just for this sweet trip. Then maybe it'll get more serious once they get back right before classes start. I would have suspected Uhl but he seems pretty entrenched to me I doubt he's leaving. Other than him and Williams I'm not sure who would and even he seems to be pretty happy with his role.

I suppose if a player has told Fran he was transferring after the trip overseas he would be the one that isn't getting a lot of minutes compared with the other players.

PC, coaches have ways of communicating to players on what their future might hold. For example, Fran is on record stating that everyone will get equal minutes on this European trip. Well, if a player doesn't get many minutes, that sure would be a hint. I just saying there are indirect ways; but I think Fran is honest enough to speak frankly to someone, face to face. Wagner, Williams and Daily still have their redshirts. Also, Cook might leave early. What I don't know is if a scholly needs to be available by November when these two kids sign.
I would hope he has the maturity to just tell a kid it's probably better to go elsewhere to play minutes.

CJ also had offers from: IU, XU and PSU, along with a couple of MAC offers. At minimum, this kid will back fill Ellingson and we know how valuable Ellingson is and will be. Any kid described as an elite shooter is worth it, in my opinion.
