'16 Recruiting Class Working Out Real Well for Hawkeyes

I'm counting a whole TWO hiccups after his first Rose Bowl win until he retired.
Two seasons under .500.
That's a whole ONE more hiccup than KF has had.
Why would you even mention that?

I don't know about you, but I'd certainly rather have TWO under .500 seasons but with multiple Rose Bowl wins, than only ONE hiccup and zero Rose Bowl wins.

Nobody can hate on KF.
Yes, he's had some great seasons.
And the more I think about it, the more I don't want him to retire actually.
Not sure I like who's waiting in the wings to be next HC, or the AD who doesn't care.

And this is what the KF haters better be careful of. I've been critical of Kirk, and I think fairly critical, but the odds of him having a 9 win or more season are about 40%. Not good odds but still entirely possible.

The odds of Gary Barta f'ing up the hiring of his replacement are impossible to gauge number-wise but I would describe the chances of him making a good hire as slim to none just because he oozes incompetence.

Be careful. You're throwing the 2015 season in there.

Detractors want to throw it out. Like it never happened. We played at the level that year that all the negatives nancies say they would love to see us play at but bitched and moaned that year as well.

Also interesting that MSU plays in the B1G east and has the weaker SoS. Detractors love to rip on the West and hold the perceived weak half of the conference against us. Can't wait to see how weak the west will be should Frost, Fleck and Brohm really get their act together.

Any level of credibility demands you look at his entire body of work since he arrived as head coach. I am thinking it is at .500 or very close to that mark. Not terrible, not really good.

Hockenson was a 2 star BECAUSE he's from Chariton. He was a two star because nobody knew he existed, not because he's a 2 star athlete. If he were from Indy or Florida, he'd be a 5 star.

That's how it works.

Do have to admit that was a good catch (no pun intended) by our coaching staff.

.599 is a long way from .500 when the body of work encompasses twenty years. And I am including non conference games as part of his entire body of work. He is 50 games over .500 for his entire body of work. He would have to go oh for the next four seasons for his body of work to be at .500 or very close to that mark.

I was talking in conference percentage not those cup cake teams that most coaches schedule to pad their win totals. This season was really bad as we lost every big game but what the heck Kirk got to add nine wins to his total. Looks good on the books but we all know the truth about this season. Even the bowl game is questionable and if their defense is as good as what is being reported then we will lose the game. Our apathetic offense against a top defense.............. game over.

Another thing I don’t get where a lot of fans come from. What if we get a new coach who slips to a 6-6 instead of a steady diet of 7-5 average year in year out. That (6-6) would happen if Kirk actually scheduled competitive teams during the non-conference.

I've commented more than once. Bob Commings would have snuck into a couple bowl games if six wins made you eligible in his era. And he did play legit non cons.

Kirk has done OK when scheduling power non cons. He's now past break even against ISU. He beat Pitt three out of four in that series. He's had nice non con wins against Arizona and Syracuse. And of course he's had some stumbles.

You are evidently going to do very similar to what another poster did last week. You're going to evaluate an "entire body of work" then conveniently throw out what you deem necessary. That's what is confusing me here.

We just completed a regular season where the whole didn't come close to equalling the sum of the parts. That goes without questioning. Every team in the nation has those years on occasion. This year was our turn.
