12-0 to Apathy

We are five games in to the season and is it possible one of the most rabid fan bases in the nation can be considered apathetic? Iowa can't even sell out a homecoming game after going 12-0 the season before.

After losses like today there are very few blow ups among my Hawk friends, just complete disdain and a lack of any emotional response to this football program and regime.

We've witnessed it all before high expectations, a senior QB returning to take care of unfinished business only to witness lost opportunity after lost opportunity.

Kirk, as is the norm will shoulder little of the blame stating the common phrase execution and that's football. The most mind numbing thing about this entire situation is we have been here before as a fan base. Iowa rises to a level many would think impossible 12-0 only to see a complete and utter meltdown the following year.

Unfortunately the brand of football we witness on Saturdays is extremely bland and painful to watch when execution does not occur and to think we have at least 115 more games under the Ferentz regime to enjoy...Go Hawks

Watching about 6 other offenses today...they all do so many things that are completely normal in modern football, yet would seem so novel for Iowa.

Defensively, I just am not sure. Can't get off the field on 3rd, give up too many big runs, eventually gets tired due to offense not sustaining drives and not having depth.

Arrrghaa. So frustrating. Can't get over it.

I totally agree with the OP. I dont think anyone saw the Off and Dee lines regressing this bad but it looks like we are playing Stanford almost every game where the opponent forces the action and penetration with their linemen.

We saw the hawk Dee giving up more yards and points the last half of last year after Ott went out and we saw how Stanford's front 7 just moved the LOS a yard back into the hawk backfield.

I would say the coaches including Doyle dont have the players ready or didnt recruit good enough players, probably some of both.

Just tired of watching boring football. I would rather lose close games where we had 5 sacks but gave up 5 big plays on defense and made 5 big plays but had 3 turnovers on offense, than watch another game where when it's over you feel like absolutely nothing happened at all. Football is supposed to be entertaining.

Last year was just dumb luck. The beat down at the rose bowl just proved it. We have looked horrible this year in all aspects of the game. Recruiting hasn't been any better the last few years with the exception of a slight up tick in the 2016 signings. That is a fact seeing that we are having to start some of those freshmen.

We jumped the gun on the contract renewal and now we are really screwed with the buy out cost. Barta more than ever needs to be fired immediately

Their zone D is not working, they need to switch it

This has the potential to get very toxic really fast. This looks to be a 6-6/7-5 team, and if that happens fans are going to stay at home and, and tickets sales will go right back down to 2014/2015 levels.

It has the makings of us getting slaughtered in some big prime time spots. Our LT struggles immensely in pass protection situations, hoping CJ makes it through the year.

I agree, except the team I've watched the last 3 weeks looks to be a 5-7 team, or worse. This is as bad as I can remember. Like 2012 bad.

Ding, ding, ding we have a winner folks.....2017 was going to be a bit of a step back year following this potential turdfest KF may be forced to get rid of Parker or GD. Someone may have to be a sacrificial lamb if anything to keep the fan base engaged.

your win totals are VERY optimistic.

And recruiting will drop back down after this piss poor season.

Iowa has gone from First to Wurst.

Yeah but hey, look on the bright side. Maybe they'll bring back the $10 food vouchers as a season ticket purchasing enticement.

Yeah that one got me. When you put his remaining tenure into amount of games we have left with KF as head coach, I wonder if I will make it that far. Man that is a long way off.

It you watched a lot of football yesterday, you would notice that virtually every team sends blitzes from all over the place, especially in 3rd and long situations. The good teams do not let average quarterbacks stand back there forever under a three man rush (see the Iowa Game). Iowa makes average quarterbacks look like All Americans. My God, take one of our plodding linebackers out and put in a speed rusher in passing situations.

This. Ferentz archaic approach to football not only causes many losses to inferior teams, but is beyond boring and predictable. How anyone would want to play for KF is beyond me. I guess that's why we are where we are. With all the $$, support, and general program/brand there is no fucking way we should be starting 4 walk ons, and walk ons every year. No other team does it, and it's not bc our coaches "are great at developing talent." It's bc fuckhead Ferentz has been allowed to recruit like dog shit for almost 2 decades. Guy from the MAC comes to the biggest dumpster fire in college football, coming off 7 wins in 3 years, and almost puts together a better class than one of KF best classes in 20 years. That is bullshit.
