11/20 Kirk Ferentz Presser Live Blog (FINISHED)

Re: 11/20 Kirk Ferentz Presser Live Blog

The kiss of death is highlighted. He really believes Iowa is a "3 point" team. Even when they play CMU. Hayden Fry told his charges to go "run up the score" on the Iowa State's of the world. Now the Cyclones own the Hawkeyes because of Kirk's so-called "Classiness".

Hey Kirk, LOSING ISN'T CLASSY!!!

You are exactly right, this quote jumped out at me as well. "Nature of our program". There is the motto right there. It can be lumped together with the "we're not a sexy program" line we've heard over the years.

What the hell does this mean?

Whenever he's asked a question that requires even the smallest amount of substance to answer he reverts back to story telling. "Yeah, I remember back in blah blah blah we blah blahed"

I still like kf but at the same time you do get very little out of his pressers. All coach- speak. Nothing really there

Why doesn't he just cancel the friggin pressers? If he can't handle the "on the side" then we shouldn't have to listen to his gibberish at the pressers either. I know very little about coaching college football...(or coaching anything for that matter) but this dude obviously doesn't get it. He even lacks emotion. It makes me wonder if he has some form of auspergers of somthing. He is just blank.

Distance, blip on map some of these road trips NFL esque

My wife commented on that...wives on trip last week...noon kick, get home 7..long days..going through airport security has made it more interesting.
I had that thought of going Morgantown to Lubbock...interesting trip...all a part of changing times

Is it just me, or does this comment seem a little odd. Travel is a part of the business, why say something now after 14 years

Well there meangingless because:

A. Kirk says almost nothing of substance.
B. The questions are sterile and pointless (because otherwise Kirk will whine and get all mad mad)

I was listening to a reporter asking Andy Reid questions - very direct questions AND Andy Reid answered them to his best without getting all upset.

If you think Kirk's behavior is the norm - its not. He really is babied and is very stand offish.

I do like kf, but I do like a coach with some balls that will speak the truth. This whole coach speak that most if them do now is so phony. So pc. Politicians

If you listen to alot of pressers you will see that in many the questions are way more honest and the coaches actually try to answer tough questions without getting all butt hurt.

Iowa press conferences are not as common as people think - not for a struggling team.

The arbitrary references to the past are always intriguing if not utterly pointless. The whole exercise reminds me of an activity with a monkey and a football or some sort of Jedi mind trick.

In past when had bowl prep, time to develop younger players...not going, change approach for this game and younger players time?

No, will approach this game same do best to try to win..play guys who give us best chance to win.

We're riding the JVB train to the end.

How far away is the spring game?

Is there a reason why a reporter can't just say, "Coach, is there a reason that you didn't put the backup QB in the game for the last couple of series? Don't you want to protect Vandenberg from injury in this situation?

Many of these coaches press conferences remind me of the common workplace where we all set around the table and head nod and never really say what we should to get the job done and fix things. Lame

That would be a GREAT question. If JVB gives Iowa the "best chance to win", you would pull him in those games that are lost (i.e. PSU, Michigan) to protect him for "winnable" games. At the same time, your backup (no matter how much worse), gets some valuable game experience in case he is ever FORCED into a winnable game due to JVB injury. Win-win, right?

That's the way these press conferences are - they are not ALL like that. Especially with a team in turmoils.

How will staff use the coming month no bowls?

Meet with players, lot to cover...you dont get that time when you recruit and prepare for a game...you dont give anything enough attention until you geto n plane and go to bowl. Same for recruiting, too. There is a lot of work to do here, there always is.

That's an understatement!!!
