11/12: My B1G Power Rankings

I have never been overly impressed with McGary...other than during the NCAA run and that was all Burke. I'm with HF33 on this one. I do think he will get a lot of rebounds but I don't like his offensive game at all. I hope the Hawks use their 25 fouls at the 4 and the 5 to ensure he gets his 1 out of 2 at the line rather than a dunk.

I guess I have watched him more or something because the tools are all there. He had a nice baseline move today, but he still isn't playing much.

From the game tonight it looks like McGary doesn't work to post up and doesn't demand the ball. It also looks like there isn't any emphasis on trying to get him established or get the ball to him. With the new rules I think he can be a force and that the coach will work on getting him the rock. I liked what I saw from LeVert but I didn't see the ISU game.

Minnesota has a deep guard court and could cause the Hawks some issues. They appear to be weaker inside and pretty thin. I'd hope Iowa abuses them in the half court, but I'm not sure we can successfully run against them. Pitino has them pressing and they are quick enough to give us fits.

I think we will compete with everyone in the league this year, but I haven't seen many teams that you can pencil in a W against. I expect us to win a few of the games against the top tier, but I also think you have to be prepared to drop a couple against teams that we feel we're better than. You'd better come ready to play every night cause if you don't you're going to leave with a loss.

Well, Mich will play FL St. next since they embarrassed #10 VCU in the Puerto Rico Tourney. They should win and FL St. did their job by knocking off a highly rated team. IND will play #18 Uconn in the Sports2K Tourny next as well, so IA should move into the AP polls next week with these early upsets.

I definitely want the Big 10 to keep beating the pretenders out there.

UNC is going to lose this weekend too, so they will drop out as well.

McGary is a stud, when healthy and in shape. He was injured last season early and it took him some time to get in shape and show his stuff, which he did in the tourney where he was called the MVP of the tourney going into the last game. He was named pre-season 1st team All American for a reason...but again, he is hurt early and not in great shape. When healthy and in shape he will dominate games. He has a lot of post game and good touch out to 15 ft. He will be a lottery pick if he stays healthy this season.

UMass did IA a favor by knocking off #19 New Mex! Uconn next!

How so? UMass is 5-0 and with a win over a top 25 team. Iowa will be 5-0 against a mush of cupcakes. There is a lot of buzz with voters on Twitter for UMass ranking. Also Indiana is 5-0 and dominated Washington and Florida State is 5-0 and pummeled #10 VCU. I'd say those 3 teams will be ranked ahead of Iowa. Think Iowa actually gets moved down if anything. But rankings don't mean crap right now anyway. Don't care, just want an NCAA berth.

Care to wager on this? Loser gets banned for two weeks.

I'd accept that wager.

I'm just not sure how you justify Iowa being ranked over those 3 right now. I'm just ready for Iowa to prove they ARE worth the hype and beat teams with a pulse already. So many cupcakes, making me sick.

Ranking would be fun considering it's been darn near a decade since last ranking but they really don't mean jack squat in November and December though.

I can't tell if you accepted HF33's wager...kind of talked around his proposal.

He can't make FTs and that's 15 feet so his "good touch" must actually end at 14 feet 11 inches. He will have to do unbelievable things to be a lottery pick. He's going to be something like 22 on draft day. The draft likes them young fellas. Also, I don't think McGary is anything special. He runs the floor well and will likely get a lot of boards but his offense...not so much.

He did, I'll make sure Jon enforces it if all those teams aren't ahead of Iowa come Monday.
