I had em at 7-5 - though schedule, young team. If they win 8 they will have exceeded my personal expectations. Jon and Deace took the under of 6.5. I don't really get the outrage, but I enjoy reading it and it's your right as a fan. I am a supporter of Kirk and the program. I honestly think he's been good for Iowa as in, he's done better then anyone previously has and you can look at 100's of years of data. I would like it to be better. It can always be better. This is just my opinion, thank for respecting it.

First, you act like Dean at times and compare criticism with outrage. For sure there was a lot of frustration. You show it too, but it's OK when you do it, then you bite at others saying basically the same thing.

You are leaving out how close KF is to being really good and then shoots himself in the foot. That is the frustration.

You aren't going to have a LB core and an running back anywhere close to what there is this year next year and probably down one heck of a corner. This isn't really that young of a team. What is maybe a bit difference is that there are seniors along with young players. If you believe the young players will be greatly better than at this point in the season next year...that is a leap given the seniors will be gone. Illinois has a legit point on youth. Part of the reason for the youth playing is that they are an upgrade over what would be there otherwise. Wisky had a true Frosh WR make one hell of a TD catch that was very well defended. He used his body well. To think poorly playing WRs this year are going to go crazy next year is wishful thinking. It's the lack of being true P5 material in experience from HS along with coaching gaps. Good one's are good one's regardless of the year.

really us fans want the hawks being in the hunt on the last weekend or 2 or having it locked up. preseason looking at wisky vs iowa schedules I am not surprised at the outcome. I thought the hawks would handle jNW but KF just cannot get his team high for that game or game plan that game

I just want to know why most of you in this thread aren't Wisconsin fans? You complain about Wisconsin leaving us in the dust. Why are you so sour about competition? Wisconsin is better than we are. We knew it going into Saturday and we know it now. Wisconsin is on an historic 20 year run of success. The level of which maybe 12 other programs in D1 NCAA have ever achieved. To cry that we are not as good is silly. Do you pine on your couches over the local lottery winner? Do you agonize over "why not me"? Wisconsin has hit the football lottery. They have a process for building a team and they have perfected the art of repeating it. Sure they set the bar for the West, but every single team can see that bar. It is not a mystery. The competitors will go and match that bar. Iowa gets close and they really are the only other team that stands a chance year in and year out.

I often question why Ferentz himself who is so consistent can not get a team to be as consistent. I, like all of you have no actual answer for that. However I do not consider firing a guy that keeps you on the edge of the pulse. Many cocky programs have tried that. I.E Texas, Tennessee, ND and LSU. These are all examples of better programs than Iowa that had a great level of consistency and success, but just was not good enough for a glutinous, ravenous fan base. Some of these teams are still picking themselves up off the mat.

Here is what will happen. In the next 3 to 5 years Kirk will somehow be plunged into a sabbatical from football early in the season of a year when Iowa has a decent football team. In his stead will step his progeny. He will have the season to prove himself. If he fails Kirk will return to finish out his contract buying time for Brian to set himself up somewhere else. If Brian succeeds his season as interim HC than like it or not, say hello to the new establishment.

Kirk has hand picked his successor. In most cases this works out well in sports. We shall see for Iowa. Either way at the end of the day as long as we stay #2 in the West more years than not than we will always be within striking distance.
