    Week 3

I said that last week after looking at their final stats... but tempered it after seeing data that shows the ISU/Iowa game is a rivalry where anything can happen and the play is never truly indicative of the ability of either team. But Arkansas St is more than holding their own and arguably...

Hopefully The Hawkeyes Beat The Smart Kids Game Thread

ISU just got a gift to maintain their lead. Didn't see the offensive PI call that erased a touchdown, but that holding call that just erased another Pig State touchdown was not holding. And I would probably call holding on every play.

Humble Kirk isn't going to run up the score on his record breaking win. Which i admire. And also intensely dislike.

Hopefully The Hawkeyes Beat The Smart Kids Game Thread

I think so. But like I said 60 of them will come on 2-3 plays to a tight end that would normally be a 7 yard pickup against a decent defense. The other 80 will be on 3-7 yard pickups with a stray 10 yard completion. And that will be it. Once Iowa is up, it'll be nothing but ground pounding...

Hopefully The Hawkeyes Beat The Smart Kids Game Thread

Oh, I think the offense will look "good". Because they will run the ball at will. Which, combined with the opponent's level of ability will make some conservative passing plays a slam dunk even for this Iowa team. But still less than 130* yards passing. A couple decent looking completions of...

Could it been a worse start?

I do have to say, though. As I've been thumping the table about how poor ISU looked (looking like Iowa teams of the last few years)....I went to go look for data to see how often Iowa performed that poorly in the last 5 years. It's not often, if Hill wasn't playing. Not unheard of. But not...

Could it been a worse start?

Totally agree. I've not seen this defense falter other than one series against Albany very early. And my assumption is Phil was just trying a few things out to see. It did not last. ISU looked like any decent Iowa team over the last 5 years. 230 total yards. Solid special teams and what was...

    Pollard, Campbell and Goetz

So, I hate BPV (as we locals call Ballpark Village). -It's terribly expensive. -Some of the food is gross. -The ancillary themed bars are totally not my scene. -I have bad memories there (a) I-Club game watch there for the 2015 Big 10 Championship (b) I've played some music gigs there...

don't mean to be sour grapes

I don't hope anymore. Ive been doing that for 5+ years now. I will not invest my hope. I prefer to expect abject misery. Then I am prepared for it. If something different happens? Great. Pleasant surprise. I'm not gonna be Charlie Brown repeatedly falling for it only to have Lucy snatch the...

    Anybody See This Saturday Morning?

I mean, ISU won the game with 230 yard offense. A QB with 130 yards passing and the longest run of the day (11) with only 100 rushing yards from the backs. They relied on what was essentially a defensive score and special teams. Literally exactly what Iowa has done for over a half decade...

    I'm im good spirits

I'm always pretty salty even on Sunday after a loss. Doubly when it's to ISU. Maybe it's the weather. But, I don't think so. I'm feeling pretty good. Cause I just don't care.* I made a promise to myself. A promise to not care if this year is more of the same. Sick of playing the "the offense...

    2nd quarter of ISU. SSDD

The defense made the second coming of Brock Purdy look like Cade McNamara. linebackers and the d-line held them to 100 yards on the ground. Longest run of the day was 11 yards on a broken play where Purdy scrambled. The secondary was at the very least...contributing. ISU outIowa'd Iowa...

    How does recruiting work now?

This is an interesting question. The other thing I've thought a lot about. 2 things really. 1. This is the tail end of the NIL transition. I thought about this a lot in regards to Caitlin Clark. When she decided on Iowa, NIL wasn't available. And didnt really kick into high gear until well...

    OUR TEAM

o-line There were several plays yesterday where G had 4 years to throw the ball. Sometimes he took 5. Sure, some of them he scrambled. But he had turf to scramble to. On most passing plays, he had more than enough time. I have felt for the QBs in the recent past because the o-line wasn't...

How much of the lack of offense is poor QB play...

OK. let's assume he caught it...and would have either been immediately tackled or pushed out of bounds. Groanouchie would have had 92 yards on the day instead of 84.

How much of the lack of offense is poor QB play...

So, let's put the sophomore in and hopefully he gets enough reps by the time he's a senior that we can witness a Hawkeye QB throw for over 100 yards.
