    Ice Ice Baby

That's fair. It's not unreasonable to do, and I may have been too snarky with my post. I just think with all the noise we are (fairly, I believe) making about Ferentz's decisions on here, that we should at least stay somewhat targeted. I think a far greater shortcoming yesterday was not going...

    Ice Ice Baby

I am an ardent Ferentz critic, but: A) Did we have a TO left?, AND B) I think the notion of icing the kicker has been dispelled with statistics. The bigger problem yesterday was that we got outgained by 226 yards. Again, folks, if we want to lose the tag 'lunatic fringe,' we need to...

Is This the Ferentz Era Low Point?

Disarray and flummoxation pretty well describe the way they look out there. We have enough athleticism to look semi-respectable, but I swear we haven't completed a timing route since 2005.

    Whew!!!!!

That's fair. I'm in grad school at BC right now, so I was definitely rooting against them last night. To no avail.

    Whew!!!!!

If Oregon, K-State, and Notre Dame all take care of business, then I think the 1-loss SEC champ would be left outside looking in. All those teams have at least one quality opponent remaining: KState: Texas Notre Dame: USC Oregon: Stanford, Oregon State, Pac-12 Title Game

    Canzeri

Bingo. Misguided as his calculations often seem to be, Kirk's decisions often are always made in a 'calculated' manner, like every little move has great future implications. For instance, it seems like he won't give Rudock a series of downs at QB because it would implicate him as some sort of...

Spy the QB against Mich and Nebby for any chance to win - anybody agree?

I agree, and why the hell not? If we go from our two deep safeties look to one, and bring Nico in to spy the QB, we'll be a bit more vulnerable to the big play, but I think our corners can hang with Roundtree, Gallon, Kenny Bell, etc. The problem is, I will be stunned if our offense puts up...

    Let's Do Some Math

I tried to disclaim any claim to economic precision. Generally, the idea is that spreading the cost out, it can at least be substantially offset by marginal increases in pricing, which in the past were used to pay to renovate the stadium. Program renovation, anyone?

    Let's Do Some Math

I don't think we need to fire Kirk. In fact, I would say I even advocate for letting him have a shot to bounce back with the 2011 & 2012 recruits. But, just how prohibitive is his buyout? This is undoubtedly simplistic in some or many ways, but to get an idea: $20,000,000 / 70,585 seats in...

SIAP Kirk to team at half

For as much as Ferentz's salary gets illogically thrown around on this board, this is one context in which it is relevant. PapatHawki, I have no doubt the players feel crappy about the loss today. I'm sure Kirk does too. But telling us (essentially) to 'leave Kirk alone' like you're the viral...

    The Simple Answer

Yep. Our offense as an entire picture looks terrible, but picking up these 3rd & 1s is where it starts to get better. Further, if you have the Earth-moving type line, you're not going to be in 2nd & 10 as much as Iowa is. Today was the confluence of those two problems: Iowa was either behind the...

    4-8

Cool your jets, man. I've been sour on Kirk for a long time. I'm not going to take the time to look up every single example. Just to give a taste though: Kansas won 11 or 12 games in 2007. Texas Tech won 11 games in 2008 and were terrible last year. Michigan State from last year to this year...

    2 - 7 BOSTON COLLEGE - NOTRE DAME

I agree. Current BC grad student here. They've got a system and they at least look competent. They struggle with turnovers and penalties and rhythm at times, but as far as looking like a baseline competent team moving the ball, BC is light years ahead of Iowa.

Believe me when I say I'm no KF apologist, but: subjective: judging your situation based on your feelings objective: judging your situation by comparing it to common experience This is exactly what people mean when they tell the extreme KF haters to show some objectivity. No one will dispute...

Iowa MBB: VanLaere’s 2012-13 Season Preview & Prediction

I think many people are underestimating just how bad our non-con schedule is. Every win over a team with a 300+ RPI is about as good (RPI-wise) as a loss to a top 100 team. Think about it this way: Iowa going 11-2 in the non-conference (which means no slip-ups) means about the same as going 8-5...
