This legit made me lol. I think he's the best in baseball history, but this is so true. Past accomplishments really don't guarantee anything, and for Ferentz, there has been no middle ground between the AP top ten and .500 ball (save for 2008, which should have been in the top ten). For those...

It's Fair to Say We've Hit Rock Bottom

Yeah. 83Hawk is crushing everybody with his non-srsness. It's been pretty epic to watch.

Thank you! This is all I want to see as well. I enjoyed the early Ferentz years (yes, even 1999 & 2000), but these last two years in football, the regression has been unpalatable. Fry had some down years late in his tenure, but they were more explicitly 'resets' (playing a ton of freshmen, like...

    Leftovers

Yep. Anecdotally and offhand, it seems that right about the time his reputation for development was really getting strong, it felt like the program model became to rely on developing a bunch of 2-stars, rather than having a couple of those guys surprise and push us over the top.

Proof Iowa football turns it around

Go on ... Beathard? Fine. Same thing. If our QB play is below average, then our other young talent won't get us too far.

I'm loving the vibe over here, guys. Coming over here from the football forum is like heading to Buffalo Wild Wings from a scary biker bar. Can't wait to see the fellas back on the court today, and the Franimal on the sidelines!

I also think we have a lot of talent waiting in the wings. But on top of that, I think the schedule gets harder next year, and 7-5 will be tough if Rudock and Sokol are as raw as KF would have us believe.

    Curious...does Barta

Awesome. I cited that very Minnesota game in a thread last week. Hawks were 0-7 in the Big Ten, playing a Minnesota team that was ranked in the top 20. Great game. We ran out of time on their 25 or so down by 4. Totally agree that that was more entertaining/promising than anything seen this year...

    This isn't Kirk's offense anymore

I won't do the pompous 'FIFY' thing, but I think my alteration to the quote above is the biggest deal here. See, e.g., 2009 Texas Longhorns Statistics | College Football at Sports-Reference.com. Colt McCoy was a 70% passer. JVB is ~55%. That said, I agree you need to play to your talent. A...

    Leftovers

Consensus seems to be that we currently recruit Ohio State's leftovers from Ohio, and similar ideas like that. I'll concede that it's tough to recruit to Iowa, and that we'll always be getting someone's leftovers, but what happened to the Florida pipeline from the early Ferentz years? Was that a...

Very well thought-out. A good balance between the two positions. I'll cop to being 27 and wanting to get to the 'next level.' Honestly, though, I just want to win games like CMU 95% of the time and have some sort of reliable flow to most seasons. Last year, if we beat Minnesota (terrible team we...

    Juco Recruiting

Haha. Well played. To seriously respond to your post, though, I'm not sure how much JUCO talent is out there each year, but every year Iowa underachieves, the 'KF people' tell us "what do you expect? we had our youngest D-Line ever!" (2005) or "we lost Angerer and Edds and had no depth at LB...
