Where Would You Build a New Arena?

Amateur architect/engineer reporting for duty. One dumb question / idea. We need to get fans/seats/noise closer to the floor. Hard to argue that's a key point in improving the atmosphere. Kinnick's 6' wide sidelines are the perfect example. Question: how can they make that happen at CHA...

    Iowa's offense

Weird hill to die on. Fan forum about our team's (mediocre) offense and you're pushing back with - "our offense is fine the way it is". You're probably the guy that stands up and cheers loudly when we take consecutive knees to run out the 1:30 left on the first half clock in early season games...

    Iowa's offense

I think we all agree with the schematic frustrations, to an extent. But talent is important too. How many WRs, RBs, QBs has Iowa really put into the NFL in the last 5-10 years. Answer = very few. The last RB was Shonn Greene. I can't remember the last WR. At QB, Beathard is a legit backup pro...

Transfer Portal - Who Goes Shopping?

Good post. I think we're all excited about Goodson and the excitement that he'll bring our offense in the next few years. And I know he's incredibly well built and tough... but we need depth at running back. Goodson is a small back and I think he's probably a 15 carry/game kind of guy. Again...

    Theo Johnson decision Monday

Do you think Logan Lee is going to play TE ? Or maybe DL ?

    Theo Johnson decision Monday

Yeah, great point. The "pro" style TE isn't really a position that's played in HS. 99% of HS offenses simply aren't setup that way. HS teams will put their best athletes at WR or in the backfield. It's what makes TE such an interesting position when you look back at scouting and player development.

    Toren Young = Fullback?

I agree. And to answer the OP's question: Toren Young as a "conventional FB"? - absolutely not. Young as a "2nd RB"? - absolutely yes. Two thoughts: 1) For whatever reason... if we're not going to use a "mobile" quarterback, how can we produce more of a consistent rushing threat? Can we feature...

    Theo Johnson decision Monday

All the big programs want him... and that tells you everything you need to know. And I hope he chooses Iowa. But I am somewhat wary of expectations for this kid at the next level. What position does he play? Is he a WR? If so, it's hard to not love his physical skills, raw athleticism, size...

    Brian Ferentz is still awful

BF has shown absolutely nothing that indicates he would be a good hire at head coach. This is so obvious and it’s confusing to me why he’s so commonly mentioned in the “next HC” discussion. Kirk does not have the power to appoint his son head coach. As for the offense, I actually like our...

    Ranking Update

Completely agree with 1) optimism for the next few years, based on recent recruiting successes and 2) your dislike of the "lost _ games by a combined _ points" argument. I think we can take this argument one step further. I think Iowa's philosophy does indeed result in many close games. In...

    What is our WR situation?

I think you're spot on with the fact that our current guys are performing well. And the Oliver Martin talk does seem to be annoyingly aimed at "playing time" - who can we sub out, so that Martin can sub in? ... this isn't the questions we should be asking. But to nitpick, we aren't really...

    Kirk/Brian in game play calling

I think Iowa runs a scripted offensive play set more often then people realize. It's not talked about a ton, but scripted offensive plays are fairly common from HS through high levels of college football (unsure about NFL...). This does NOT mean that every play is scripted. Far from it. Rather...

    Lutovsky to Neb.

@RobHowe Sorry if I missed earlier comments on this, but any idea why Iowa didn't seem to be in the mix for this kid?I'm seeing a ton of content (from Nebraksa fans) on Twitter about the Iowa High School football class of 2021 and how the Huskers are hoping to win a few big "recruiting battles"...

    Xavier Foster Announcement

I am so torn on the conference tournament argument. On one hand, I totally respect ISU's remarkable success in the Big12 tourney. It shows that they peak at the right time and more importantly, that they come to play in meaningful (tournament) settings. But at the same time, it's such a lame...

    Recruiting

Man I wish the hawks landed DJ Carton. Would have been such a big get for our team. I think the OSU choice makes it sting even more. They're an in-conference, evil empire, powerhouse. And very very lately, they're not that special of a program. A few years back, under Thad Matta, they were...

    2019 Recruiting Class looking good

I think you’re both right: should we be excited about the young guys (already getting playing time) across basically the full range of positions? Yes. Are we overstating this a little bit? Yes. I’ve always wished that Iowa could snag a super high-level RB recruit every other year. To be honest...

    ISM - Kick Return ?

Across all of college football, it seems to my eyes that the average kickoff return yields field position worse than the 25 yard line. That's what's in my head just about every time I see a kickoff. More often than not, it seems like the returner gets tackled at the 18.

6 man recruiting class? Scholarship Breakdown?

I see your point. But simply going through the exercise and thinking about options, could it be a better option than taking away someone's scholarship or "forcing them out the door" ?

6 man recruiting class? Scholarship Breakdown?

Do children of faculty receive any sort of scholarship? Or does it not work that way in major college sports? Maybe more importantly, are there more complicated factors of being "on scholarship" that would make it pretty important for the McCaffery boys to be on full scholarship? Such as, eating...
