Please Post Questions for 5/20 Mailbag Pod Here

How are the Hawks getting these commitments during a "dead" period? Will this "down" time hurt QB development more than other positions?

    HAYDEN FRY'S (AND IOWA'S) ALL-TIME #1

Later start meant longer tailgating. Plus, it was cold-ish and rainy, so botas with "warming fluid" were a necessity. I wasn't sloppy, falling down, etc., just "in the spirit". Some of us can handle it, others can't.

    HAYDEN FRY'S (AND IOWA'S) ALL-TIME #1

My brother and I were in that winning-kick end zone with another buddy, who met up with us for the fourth quarter when his brother, drunker than us,, even, stumbled into us. Absolutely magical. Topped only by, for me, The Catch on 1/1/2005.

    Hayden Fry's "Top Five" - #3

I LOVED "Voice of the Hawkeyes". Or, I did...until the first issue came after CMS40s untimely passing. It was so tough to read after that. I always, for some reason, "expected" to see bad news in it every issue thereafter.

    Hayden Fry's "Top Five" - #3

Don't know what mags picked the Hawks in an upset, but everything I read pointed to more of the same, typical Iowa team. But...that previous summer I had been telling friends at our summer cabin and in my hometown, "You watch, I bet we make a bowl game. We have a hellacious defense coming back"...

    Wow, Eno Benjamin...

<<He should have stayed at ASU another year>> Bingo. I am shocked he fell so far. So what gives? I can see him going after Wirfs and AJE. Never would have guessed he would go after Ojemudia and Stone, as well.

    Wow, Eno Benjamin...

...gets left behind until Round 7. AFTER four Hawkeyes (Wirfs, AJE, Ojemudia, Stone). Weren't they talking about him as possible Heisman candidate at one point?

    Hayden Fry's "TOP TEN" - #7

Yeah, and he was in the same ballpark, age-wise, as McClain. There had to be family history, or something.

    AND NOW - Hayden Fry's "TOP FIVE" - #5

The hit by B Stoops on the first or second play of the game set the tone

    Hayden Fry's "TOP TEN" - #7

Wow, Dave McClain looks pretty young & healthy in these highlights. Less than five years later he would succumb to a heart attack in a sauna at Camp Randall after working out. Of course, B1G COY is named in his honor.

    Hayden Fry's "Top Ten" - #8

Between the tailgate, the TD to Moritz, and the rest of my night at Maxwell's, that was a LONG-ass day. But an absolutely great one! Actually, one of my roommate's parents took us to IRP for prime rib the night before. After they dropped us off, we went to The Fieldhouse for late-night martinis...

    Hayden Fry's "Top 25" - #13

Anyone notice a certain disgruntled-now-jailed DC skulking on the PSU sideline?

    KF on AJE's Draft Stock

Welp, that got shattered. Gross-Matos, 2nd round, 6th pick (38 overall)...

It would fly miles above your thick skull, so I'll pass.

Who Was Your Favorite Hawkeye that Things Didn't Work Out in Playing Time

As a prep at Elgin Larkin HS, Tree dominated, and damn near got that team "downstate" by himself. I was always kind of surprised Tree didn't have a big college career.

Who Was Your Favorite Hawkeye that Things Didn't Work Out in Playing Time

It wasn't BS. I remember asking a former honcho with UI Foundation WTH happened with Ray Thompson, His answer: "Ed Horton happened to Ray Thompson". Long and short of it was Ed could handle the high life, Ray couldn't.

Who Was Your Favorite Hawkeye that Things Didn't Work Out in Playing Time

In addition to being Big 10's second leading rebounder one season, Clay Hargrave was also one of the nicest guys you could ever meet.

Are you personally worried about getting the Coronavirus?

Good God, you're all over the place. Well, except, economic reality. You've pretty much a) abandoned it, or, b) were clueless to begin with, and have done a stellar job maintaining same.
