Freshman Nate Meier working at RB

Seems pretty sensible to me. He looks like a MLB or DE prospect to me. I think in the old days of the B1G he'd be an easy fit at MLB but the way spread offenses are evolving he'd likely fit best at DE in the long run. Time well tell though.

Video of Scherff doing 385 and 400 hang clean

The backward bending thing isn't a big deal, he's got a back belt on and he does it to get the bar moving. Most guys use the same motion to finish a heavy deadlift rep. Explosion/burst hang cleans are a little different than a strict Olympic clean. Going from the knees rather than the floor...

Jon, your take on this story about press box cheerleading?

For the 2011 season in Kinnick I can tell you it was a pretty subdued group. On the road I'm sure it varies, but the Iowa journalists I've been around are all pretty professional. On big plays there's usually some comments/gasps or "ohhs" and "ahhs" but no one screaming "GO IOWA" or anything...

Akeel Lynch Vs. Greg Garmon Highlights

^I was told the same thing by a source. I wasn't sure of the veracity but it agrees with what this guy's statements. Certainly be welcome news for Iowa.

    Updated depth chart

He's not a very good fit for Davis's system as things stand. He's a big body guy who isn't real quick off the line. Will likely have to adjust his game and get quicker to be able to consistently get on the field.

My Look at 2012 Iowa schedule from Confidence Points Index

I'll say 8-4. Lot of questions to be answered, but I see the majority of them coming out well.

Vandenberg still fueld by 2009 loss to OSU - espn.com

Bingo. It's tough to prepare for a guy when you have no clue what he can do. All they had was 2.5 quarters of NW film where he looked like he had a hard time tying his shoes. JVB made some mistakes against OSU but threw a lot of balls into tight spots down the field that Stanzi couldn't have...

    In Chicago. Internet is slow

I think twitter is down right now too. B1G media day blackout!

Micah Hyde - No. 78 in Rivals Top 100 Players Countdown

This pretty much sums up my position as well. Lowery has better short area quickness and recovery speed than Hyde or Spievey. I see Hyde and Spievey as similar players. I think Lowery ends up a more complete version of Prater. He has the tools to play at a very high level.

Fiedorowicz feeling comfortable in new offense

I talked with CJ after the spring game some. His comments here matche up with what I talked with him about. He thought the play calls were clearer and that the routes for TEs in Davis's system were a better fit for him. Just observing Davis's history he's tailored his system to his players...

    Iowa has a new commit

Hah I had the same thought about half way through. He looks for the big hit a lot. He does wrap at times but definitely needs to be more consistent there. Pretty decent ball skills and is just a lot better athlete than his level of competition. Closes pretty quick when he reads run. Solid...

    Iowa to land commit #9?

Highlight reel looks pretty good. He's fast & quick but not elite in either. Has pretty good initial acceleration when he wants. Good body control and is a fluid athlete. Mostly catches with his hands away from his body. Bounces off a lot of tackles, probably has something to do with level of...

    Dienhart: Q&A with Greg Davis

I'd say this is on point. The best WR of all time Jerry Rice was incredibly consistent off the line. Despite his pretty average long speed Rice had a great initial burst and was very precise with his routes. Add in the fact he was one of the best conditioned athletes in any sport, a brilliant...

No Surprise, Stanzi as 3rd string again.

A lot of people refer to it as "intangibles". Stanzi definitely had those.

    John Raymon to Iowa Western

This is what I was thinking as well. I never heard anyone say the guy lacked physical talent and potential but I got the sense there was some strong concern about his mental makeup. Given the facts that came out later it's not all that surprising the kid was having a tough time this last fall. I...

No Surprise, Stanzi as 3rd string again.

For Stanzi to ever be a starter in the NFL he'll need an OC who will cater to his style. He doesn't have the arm strength some NFL systems require, but he still could still be a good fit for some teams. Not sure what direction the new OC Brian Daboll will be going in KC but he's a guy who is...

    McNutt Catches everything in OTA's

I'll take the over. Think he fits into the system well. If he can stay healthy he should thrive.

    QUality of units by year

One of Coker's biggest faults was he wasn't good in space. His lateral agility was pretty poor and he rarely was able to shake a guy 1 on 1 in space, especially when cutting back. Teams started having their backside CBs chase down the line in run support instead of having them play contain or...

    EJ TWEET!!!!

Just a quick look at his highlight film: Big frame, has room to add size. Footwork is pretty consistent for HS kid. Release point is pretty low; ball comes out ear level. Does get the ball out quickly when he makes up his mind. Overall delivery is compact. Arm strength looks pretty average...

    jaleel johnson update

To be fair very few HS O-lineman are polished enough to hold up in 1on1 pass pro drills w/o pads on. This drill is usually tilted pretty heavily in favor of the defender. That said you've got to like the pop off the line from Johnson. He did get rolled pretty bad by #463 when he didn't get his...
