jaleel johnson update

He just destroys some of those OL. I like the last matchup with Evan Boehm

I also enjoyed the Jordan Diamond match-up (2nd to last). For those that don't follow recruiting, Evan Boehm was a 4-star and the top rated OG by ESPN who signed with Missouri.

Incidentally did Johnson get cleared? I thought I read on here that he was still a bit short on a test score? Am I all wet on that?

Dang, so your saying at 330 lbs he can do more than defend the run!?
Calling all double teams to isle 347, thats double teams to 347, thank you

Good question, he seems to think he is all set. Admitted into Iowa apparently. Got an 18 on his ACT and said he isnt going to take it again. Appears to be doing well in his final semester of HS as well.

It said in the initial story on this post, he needs an A in english and all B's, he's taking an extra class now too and he currently has 2 A's & the rest B's, just has to do well on his final's and he's good to go

I don't think this means he's officially cleared but must be dang close? idk

The Class of 2012 defensive tackle tweeted a few weeks later that he had been accepted into Iowa. And while the deal hasn't been sealed, it appeared Johnson has put himself further into position to make into the Big Ten university.

"Absolutely," he said. "I took the ACT about a month ago. I scored an 18 on that.

"As of right now, I have Bs and one A. I'm taking an extra class. I've maintained an A in that. All I have to do is have an A in one of my English classes after finals and the rest Bs and I'll be good."

Johnson said he does not plan to retake the ACT next month.

To be fair very few HS O-lineman are polished enough to hold up in 1on1 pass pro drills w/o pads on. This drill is usually tilted pretty heavily in favor of the defender.

That said you've got to like the pop off the line from Johnson. He did get rolled pretty bad by #463 when he didn't get his hands up to shield himself quick enough, but other than that solid use of hands to knock back the OL. Boehm just came up way too high in his stance & Diamond's base got way too narrow on him after two steps. Both of those guys are talented prospects, but Johnson is an very big and fast for a HS kid and made'm look silly.

Lot of power and quickness shown here by Johnson. If he's able to come into camp in shape and focus on playing sound leverage he'll push for time right away. Reminds me of Jerel Worthy pure ability wise.

Wow, is it just me or does this guy look like Babineaux? Only got beat once in the match-ups and that is because his foot slipped.

If he really wants to play immediately,I hope he gets over here in June. Shouldn't he just take some classes if he is already admitted? I saw him play in the state title game vs Joliet Catholic, and he looked big,but a bit heavy,so glad to hear he has dropped 15,with another 10 to go....at a hard-body 305...he could help us immediately.

Ok...when everyone kept posting this guy had a shot at playing time as a true freshman, I seriously took it with a grain of salt, and figured it was normal hype for a 4 star recruit. This guy does have a shot. I know those were HS lineman and the defensive lineman are always way ahead from a technique standpoint, but he was toying with people and his natural tendency is to stay low and drive with his legs. His use of his hands was also way ahead of schedule, gets them going one way with their center of gravity, then helps them along.

That was an impressive film.

This might sound a little funny coming from me who is typically Pro team/player/coach and somewhat critical of the negativity coming from posters, but…………although this kid has terrific natural skills and strength base. I wasn’t too impressed with the team defense in the State Championship game. He did push the pocket some and he got double and tripled teamed constantly but he wasn’t much of a factor.

Now to be fair, NO defensive players in that game were, but he wasn’t in the play very often…. Mostly because it was past the D-line almost immediately…..lol Wow what a game……70-45 and there had to be around 1500 plus yards of offense

edit....thought I should add, Im very excited about him, but I will be very pleasantly surprised if he makes a huge impact as a Frosh.
