    Is Harrison Barnes a bust?

Michael Jordan's main interest was in destroying everyone in his path. That usually took place on the basketball court, but he tried it in golf, gambling, baseball, etc. There's a reason why he kept coming back to basketball and still thinks he can come back now (see his Hall of Fame speech)--...

    Is Harrison Barnes a bust?

Two points: Anybody who gets mad at "the hype" surrounding Harrison Barnes needs to acknowledge that a good part of it comes from Harrison himself. Yes, the #1 recruit is always going to be hyped. But no, they aren't all going to announce their signing by cuing to a Skype feed of their future...

Big Ten Summer Baseball - Being Studied

Hasn't it been almost 30 years since a Big Ten team made it to Omaha? I think it was Michigan in 1984. I just don't see what they are getting out of the affiliation with CWS.

Big Ten Summer Baseball - Being Studied

The average high temp in Wichita in March is 58 degrees. In Ann Arbor it's 46. They get 88 days of precipitation to 160 in Michigan. I don't know how much more you can say than that. Spring in the Midwest just isn't baseball weather.

Big Ten Summer Baseball - Being Studied

The Big Ten is already irrelevant. They're trying to give themselves a product they can actually market to recruits and fans: baseball played at home in nice weather. Right now they have neither relevance nor entertainment value.

Shaka Shocks Illinois Turns Down BB Coaching Position

Their admissions policy doesn't seem to hold them back to the same degree in football. I don't buy it that even with their current standards Northwestern can't be good enough to at least occasionally qualify for NCAAs and maybe challenge for a top-4 conference finish every 7-10 years. Their team...

Shaka Shocks Illinois Turns Down BB Coaching Position

Um, why? They seem to be doing just fine as an institution.

Shaka Shocks Illinois Turns Down BB Coaching Position

There's always a chance that, top job or not, Shaka Smart doesn't want to be the coach at Illinois, just like some guys might not want to coach at Duke, Kansas, or North Carolina. It cracks me up when sportswriters make these lists of programs as if they are the universal truth-- as if a coach...

    Arizona State's Trent Lockett

I missed this. When did he address this issue and what did he say? Genuinely curious about it.

    Arizona State's Trent Lockett

That's fine, just take it to a different thread. We're trying to have a discussion about a particular player and situation here, rather than re-hash the same argument that's been going on for over a year.

    Arizona State's Trent Lockett

Florida State offers an MSM degree-- Master's of Science in Marketing. University of Arkansas just has the conventional MBA (although you can still focus in marketing). All the articles say that Peterson went to get a marketing degree, so that must of been what he enrolled in. For any student...

    Arizona State's Trent Lockett

From the article: "Lockett, the Sun Devils' leading scorer, recently found out that his mother has cancer. He then informed coach Herb Sendek of his plans to play closer to home. It's still possible Lockett could return to ASU, but it's not likely. Since Lockett, an honors student, is...

    Arizona State's Trent Lockett

But he has to enroll in a graduate program that Arizona State doesn't offer, right?

I just want to get this post out of the way now

I didn't see any excuses in this post. I saw a pretty simple statement of fact: Iowa's D is going to struggle, so temper your expectations now. Seems hard to argue with.

    Shaka to Illini

Fair point, but I don't think you can put Smart in the same category as guys who had one great year or one deep run in the tournament. Look at his 3-year record at VCU: 27-9, CBI champions. 28-11, Final Four. 29-7, Round of 32, and 2 points away from another Sweet 16 appearance. If nothing...

    Five questions for next year

Just to clarify, in that first question, I'm not trying to ask whether Marble will become the same player as Gatens. Instead I'm asking whether he can step up and fill the role as primary scorer, team leader on the floor, and strong defender-- a guy who other teams gameplan to stop but can still...

    Five questions for next year

    1. Can Devyn Marble be Matt Gatens 2.0? It would be great to have Gatens for another year, especially for his sake, but we do have another wing scorer at the ready. Gatens went for 15 ppg this year, shooting 47% from the field and 41% from 3. Can Marble reproduce those numbers even as he likely...

    First Glance Predictions for 12-13?

There's a reason Devyn had so many wide-open looks against Oregon and our post players were unstoppable against Dayton. After Gatens' run teams went all-out to stop him. That left huge passing lanes open in the Dayton game and sagging defense against Marble in the Oregon game. You don't replace...

What if Bryce had been healthy all year?

I thought about this a lot while watching how well BC played today. It definitely made a difference, although I'm not going to play the game of how many games we "should" have won. BUT, I hope everyone tempers their expectation for the non-conference season, because we saw this year how tough...

    Iowa Oregon gamethread **OFFICIAL**

My god, will you settle down? These threads are supposed to be for discussion about the game. I'm not making dramatic comments at all-- I'm just making observations. I even pointed out in my post that I didn't think refereeing swung the game, I just though it helped OU weather the storm in the...
