The line can’t block 8 guys

For all those that blame the Iowa line every game, Ohio State line looks pretty similar. Just maybe no line can block 8-9 in the box when the defense knows you can’t run or pass.

I believe Iowa quarterbacks are expected to stay in the pocket instead of running down field. I don’t understand this since it seems a lot safer to run down field and slide rather than staying in the pocket and getting crunched.

He will not be back. It’s not like this is the first year we have had a bad offense.

When the opposition is stacking 7-8 and sometimes 9 in the box, no line can be expected to block that defense. That’s why we need a mobile quarterback and more roll out passes. That means Petras needs to stay on the bench and we need to quit thinking our quarterback should never leave the pocket.

Ohio State just had 9 in the box. No line in the county can block that.

Absolutely correct

The defense is given a huge advantage knowing that Petras is not a threat to run. No OL can constantly block 7 or 8 in the box. A dual threat quarterback would make a huge difference in our line play.

I’m a long time season ticket holder and I can relate to all that you say here. I love being in Kinnick on a sunny fall day. An Iowa win is always a bonus, but for me, I enjoy the experience win or lose.

I wonder if Chris Doyle no longer being there has anything to do with the lack of development in our line. Iowa in years past was always known for their strength.

I believe it was just after the Illinois game. Sort of alluded to the fact that Jones didn’t fit in very well when he arrived. Not a big deal, but I don’t remember him making those types of comments in the past.
