    USC Loss

No doubt. Overall, they've been very good all season. It's a razor's edge, and they've been on the bad end of some extremely close plays. I still shake my head on that Oregon pass on their last drive. Hall was in perfect position but the throw was otherworldly. Nevertheless, though, our ILBs...

    USC Loss

They haven't been bad by any stretch, but, again, against top-tier offenses, our weaknesses will get exposed. I think our DBs have been solid. In the majority of the big plays, the coverage was very good. Ball placement was just unreal.

Iowa set for major early season test at National Duals Invitational

He strikes me as a little less unhinged than the rest of the family, but, yeah, we're not talking about Ozzie and Harriet here... I thought he would hit the portal after last season but he stuck it out. I don't know, I could see him leaving but he's been loyal thus far. Either way, I think...

    USC Loss

Yeah. At the end of the day, any scheme ultimately relies upon talent and execution. Phil has been an absolute master at maximizing communication and preparation to cover up deficiencies, but, against very talented teams, there's only so much you can do. Oregon's offensive line completely...

Iowa set for major early season test at National Duals Invitational

Also, I would add that a finally healthy Block is intriguing. He's got some serious upside.

Phil's philosophy (and Norm's before him) is to force offenses to move the ball in small increments, relying on offenses to eventually make mistakes. That approach has been very effective over the years against average teams, but, it backfires against top-tier teams. What I would like to see...

Iowa set for major early season test at National Duals Invitational

I've posted several times over the past 5 years or so that a large part of Iowa's decline in dominance relates to coaching style. Sanderson figured it out a long time ago - recruit talent, not just intensity, and form a culture where dominance and focus derive from self-motivation, NOT from...

Will Iowa ever have a QB that can throw

Over-the-top hyperbole, but there is a point. Gronowski is a gamer and has some moxie, but his accuracy at times is surprisingly awful, and, his misses are not just occasions where the pass should have been "front shoulder and not back shoulder." He's been off by several feet at times with...

    Who was the assistant coach

That was called for unsportsmanlike conduct on that last drive? My assumption is Wallace. He's fiery and talks like a sailor. I was amazed that there was no discussion about it, or a replay. Nothing. Even before that happened, I thought that the broadcast was amateurish. There were several...

    Hot or Not?

Entirely subjective, but I personally wouldn't give her a second look in a chance encounter. I tend to separate "hot" and "sexy" in my mind. There are women in movies, music, etc., that I find sexy but not necessarily hot, and vice versa.

    Glorious morning

Yep. One stipulation: If I was offered a beachfront property in Malibu or LaJolla with a helipad and hellicopter, and first-class fishing boat, then perhaps, maybe . . .?

Duck Hunt at Kinnick Slaughter...Fly High, Hawks

Cool. Well, let me know what Phil's response is when you run it past him.

Duck Hunt at Kinnick Slaughter...Fly High, Hawks

Five defensive lineman? Regardless of what Lanning said, he would have had an absolute field day against that scheme. I'm assuming that you would take out one of the LBs. That would force Phil to play single-high safety and man coverage, with one LB and safety to cover the TEs and RBs out of...

Duck Hunt at Kinnick Slaughter...Fly High, Hawks

That's good. Haven't heard that one before. The point is well-taken. It all starts at the line of scrimmage. Lose that battle, and it's typically game over. It seems like almost every season, we have one solid DT mixed in with some capable but not game-changing tackles. That should be a...
