Ranking the Big Ten after the ACC/B1G Challenge

I think we have a good idea of who is a contender and who is a pretender. After observing parts of all 12 games I would rank them in this order and why:
  1. Indiana (No deficiencies)
  2. Ohio State (Perimeter shooting < Indiana)
  3. Michigan (The defense is not as good as those above)
  4. Minnesota (Talent < above teams)
  5. Illinois (Talent is behind those above)
  6. Michigan State (Weak at the point, not great perimeter shooting)
  7. Wisconsin (quickness, shooting), Northwestern (defense, shooting) , Iowa (youth, shooting), Purdue (youth, leadership)
  8. Nebraska (Low talent level), Penn State (Low talent level)

I'd agree. But that group for 7 I don't know exactly how I would rank them. They are very close. I'd probably give NW the nod, followed by Iowa, then Purdue and Wisky. I would almost add Nebraska to the mix, they don't have the talent of the other teams, but when Almeida wants to take over the game, there is no one player in the conference that can stop him. He is a beast.

Seems reasonable. That top six are the obvious tourney teams, and three of them are potentially 1 or 2 seeds. I honestly think only 1 team out of the next 4 makes the tourney, and I think there is a fairly large dropoff from 6 to everybody else.

Lulz. Yeah wait til Andre the obese giant goes against the bigs in the B1G.

MSU is not 6th IMO. Not only that, but I am willing to bet MSU will be in the hunt for the B1G regular season title all year. They have had a pretty tough non-conference schedule.
UConn in Germany
Kansas in the ATL
vs. Boise St
@ Miami
vs. Texas

I'm no Bo fan but he lost his starting point guard for the year. Not a small task in front of him.

Wisky is is trouble and might have to start a freshman point guard.... oh, wait, ooops....Iowa is starting a freshman point guard.

Hard to win without an experienced point guard!!!

Wisky's Bo is on the verge of becoming the Big-10 basketball equivalent to KF.

Hell, Wisconsin lost to worse teams than Virginia last year at home (Iowa), started off 1-3 in the conference and still made the dance and finished a game out of 1st place.

Let me get this straight, some overweight guy from Nebraska beats possibly the worst team in the ACC and now he's going to be unstoppable in the post????!!!! Got it.

MSU does not seem as athletic as years past and they don't have their usual linebacker turned power forward down low. Illinois has a lot of talent and they seem much more focused post Webber. Nebraska may not have a ton of talent, but Gallegos can shoot the ball and Purdue, despite scuffling early, still plays tough D and will be competitive. We have to find a way to stop the scoring droughts on offense and the extended defensive lapses on D.

Iowa must start hitting 3's. If they are going to launch 20 of them a game they need to start hitting between 35 to 40% of them instead of 20% and lower. It will open up the middle some for Woody and McCabe. Free throws have been a pleasant surprise and i love the leadership and hustle May has shown. Also Clemmons looks like he is going to be special. Going to be probably an up and down year but the future hasn't looked this good for years.

A good friend of mine is an Illinois grad and watches all of their games, etc. He said this looks a lot like last year's team. He expects them to come back to earth when the conference season starts...does like the new coach and the new system.

I think the top 4 are correct...not sure of the order. Purdue and NW drop below the group at 7 but ahead of the bottom 2. IMO Michigan State, Illinois, Wisconsin and Iowa are 5 through 8...not sure of the order.
