Iowa is going to struggle...

LOL! Yep, It's me. I know it's a little optimistic for me if you are only used to me on the football board, but if you remember, I was heaping praise on White before last season as well. Even so, this is even different. Fran said he does everything like a professional and I would say that is a fitting statement. He plays like a pro point guard (keep in mind I have had season tickets to three NBA teams). He can stop on a dime and drain a pull up, he is money at 3, he sees the entire court and can distribute to any place on the court and he can beat his guy off the dribble and finish in traffic.

Pro guards can defend that, college guards are a different story. When you add White, McCabe, and Marble to the mix?!

So what you're saying is we are back??

I think Gesel will struggle some on D. Especially against stronger players. I think he will be very good in the press on D.

Gessel is a MUCH better offensive player than Horner. Hes going to be better off the dribble and hes going to be a better shooter.
Agree completely.
I think he has the capability to be the best pg to ever play at Iowa. Emphasis on capability.

Better than Dre or BJ?

Or Lester? I know the key word was capability, but it will take a lot to pass those three players and if I could only remember the guys at PG that my parents used to talk about from the old days...Gesell has a lot of work. I would be more than thrilled with a player somewhere in between Dre and Horner, closer to Dre of course.

I would actually give BJ the seat behind Ronnie Lester. IF Gessel can rise to those levels, then the next several years will be fun indeed. However, I've not seen enough of him to know if he's even capable of that. I know enough to say that he can be good, but those guys approached great.

I think MG will be a stud. But we need to slow down on expectations. That being said we are back.

oooh brilliant and enlightening points after ONE EXHIBITION GAME....that Duffman reallllly knows his b-ball

Yup. When you struggle doing something against a team that couldn't win the Illannoy HS state basketball championship its safe to say you are going to struggle playing in the toughest colledge bball conference in Merika.

Agreed. Iowa hasn't had a point guard this good since Horner. Granted, it's an exhibition, but he's got a very well-rounded and polished game.

Gessel has a much higher ceiling than Horner IMO.

Hes a significantly better athlete.

The comparison I thought was excellent was Kirk Heinrich.

clemmons looked a lot worse than he is because of the line-change strategy used yesterday. the 2nd unit struggled to score for awhile.

in the pre-game interview, fran said that marble will be playing some PG this year, perhaps even with gesell playing off the ball a bit.

i am fairly certain that we will be looking at a main rotation of:

gesell
marble
white
mccabe
woody
basabe
oglesby
may

with clemmons and gabe getting 5-8 minutes per game each. i dont think you will ever see a situation in a contested game where gesell or marble are not on the floor like you saw yesterday.

Lester>Woolridge (though not by as much as some would have you believe)>BJ

Can't wait to see Gesell.

Agree with this but I think Clemmons and Gabe get more minutes. Prob 11-14 min.
