Not as much has been said about Pat this off season because he wasn't in PTL, that said he fits what McCaffery wants to do as far as up-tempo offense and fills a role that we didn't have last year with his perimeter defense. So how much do you think Pat plays this year/what should we expect from him production wise?

Pat seems like a guy who is always cutting to the basket with or without the ball. Having a guy with his defensive mindset is something this team needs. I don't think he'll get a lot of minutes early on because of our depth, but I anticipate that to change later into the season as he gets accoladed to college ball. His minutes like everyone else will be determined by the other freshman's development. Team could be very deep and there's only so many minutes to go around. I do anticipate Pat playing a role down the stretch.

I think his minutes will be determined on how May does. If May is able to be the defensive stopper he is trying to be this season and is able to physically get back to being able to hit the rim with authority, Pat's time will be limited. But if May breaks down again, look for Pat's contribution to increase.

I really liked Pat's game at the B&G scrimmage. I think he will get some decent minutes. Especially once he gets acclimated:rolleyes: to college ball.
It is sure is fun to have a deep bb team. Just thinking about the various personnel combinations makes me giddy.

Your posts are so good, I still can't get accoladed to them.

HaHa! I'm usually not one to use incorrect grammar, but hey man, it was early. I wasn't accoladed to my day yet;)

What a great word.....

Lot of people getting giddy over Fran's third year. What a remarkable job he has done......

:D

All of the freshmen have looked very good early on, that's exciting.

Fran seems to have chosen those who can run his system well with intelligence.....

Been a long time since we have had this depth, maybe going back to Mr. Davis's first seasons......

It feels good to go from the misery of the Lick years to the excitement people are feeling now....

I watched every Hawk game during Lick's reign, those that were on TV that is.....

:)

Not another BTN conversation!

:)

Hes fearless. He will make plays that will dazzle and he will make you cringe on some. Thats ok, he will do nothing but get better. He has a lot to offer for this team this year.

The dynamic I always like to look for is what role coaches carve out for certain players. My experience has been that on losing teams, no one is happy with their roles (other than the kid averaging 17ppg). On winning teams, it becomes a thing of beauty to have a kid play 10 minutes a game and bust their butt taking charges, getting a key rebound, making the extra-extra pass. It takes a few years for this transition to take place, but we're seeing it happen before our eyes. The last few years of the previous regime was fairly dysfunctional. We now have depth. Guys that would have been starters a few years ago will be role players at best. That's how we have a chance of making the Big Dance this year and do some damage next year. Go Hawks!

Like I've said, my former college coach saw him play almost every game last season and predicted that Iowa fans would be talking about him more than any other frosh by mid season. Assuming he stays healthy of course.
I think he'll see about 10-12 min/game. For his defensive presence more than anything else. Remember, Fran said he was the best on the ball defender he saw on the AAU circuit last season. Sure, the AAU isn't exactly known for lockdown defense. But it's still an impressive comment in my opinion.

If this is true, this is good news. Iowa needs to improve in defense more than anything. Stops in crunch time means more W's.

From only what I saw during the blowout, he looked impressive. Has a good shot and can take it to the hoop. We will be much improved on D and he will be one of the reasons. Really excited to see this guy in action.

Part of being on offense is making the little things happen...."like cutting to the basket w/o the ball, always moving"...I'm pumped....This kid is the real deal and I'm glad he's a Hawk...let's get it on.....
