How many ppg do we average?

I don't think our defense is going to be much better.

Disagree.

Look at the upgrades -

PG D - upgraded over Cartwright w/ Gesell and Clemmons
SG D - downgrade from Gatens w/ Marble, but Ingram will help
SF D - upgrade/steady to healthy May
PF D - steady/upgrade with White (can't be worse on D than last year)
C D - upgrade with both Olaseni/Woodbury

Our two best players on offense are bad defenders. Our best defenders are not good at offense. There is not a returning player who is, what I would call solid, on both ends of the floor. Maybe our freshmen studs will be, but I have to see them in action first.

Until we actually see the freshman play I wouldn't say they are an upgrade yet.

Gesell and Woody are most definitely an upgrade from last season at their respective positions.

We averaged 73.0 last year while opponents averaged 72.5. One thing I'm definitely sure of is that the distance between those two numbers is going to increase significantly. If Fran is trying to move us faster than last year and defense improves, then we're getting more offensive possessions. I'm going with 76 on O vs 68 on D.

You brought up the D. That's another thread entirely. But since you did... I will go with 74.5 O, 70 D. The offense will be on level with anyone in the conference. The top 3 or 4 for certain. The defense will be significantly improved. AC & MG will be huge in that area. Roy Jr will step it up, as will everyone else. Having a true center is not going to hurt either.

actually Marble led the team in steals with 53 playing 29.5 mpg vs Gatens 48 in 34.6 mpg. stats for the 2
Gatens 15.2 ppg, 3.6 rpg, 2apg, 1.4 spg
Marble 11.5 ppg, 3.8 rpg, 3.6 apg. 1.5 spg
other than scoring Marble had the better stats in the other catagories as for FT mARBLE Also took more shots at 141 to 130 the others were very close
Gatens fg 173- 369 46.9%, 3fg 75-183 41.3%, FT 111-130 85.4 %
Marble fg 139 319 43.6%, 3fg 22-56 39.3%, Ft 102-141 72.3%
Marble also increased on everything from his scoring to accuarcy
ppg from 5.7 to 11.5 ppg fg accuracy from 37.9% to 43.6% 3pt 26.8% to 39.3% and FT from 53% to 72.3%. actually he did pretty good as a SO compared to a SR in 5 minutes less per game. sorry but i just don't understand the lack of respect of the defensive play of Marble.
Marble was the PG and Gatens was the Shooting guard to totally different position and responsibilities..
this season Marble will be the SG so we finally get a chance to see him at the SG.. as for White what do people expect of him to play like a one n done in his freshmen year,, not to mention people away from Iowa fans thought enough of his ability to name him a FR AA
lack of depth hurt him in staying at full speed which hurt his defensive ability

I would agree with this. I would love for the Hawks to be ready for prime time (aka ~25 wins), but I think it takes a couple years for our athletic newcomers to develop polished offensive games to go along with their D. Right now, we can mix and match lineups and lean good one way or the other, but teams like Ohio State and Indiana always have about three guys on the floor that are top-notch on both offense and defense. Iowa doesn't even have one guy that fits that bill ... yet. Still think we can dance this year, though, if a few crucial games go our way and the guys don't have any bad losses. It'll be tough.
