Iowa State This Year

Yeah you guys are right. Iowa has no chance with 2 freshman. Fran has no luck relying on freshman. None of the players he has recruited could play for ISU. God Woodbury sucks, if only Roy Williams was as good a coach as Hoiberg he would have seen that and never offered him.

Are you butthurt that ISU fans aren't conceding defeat already?

From someone who follows ISU basketball very closely I could see this game going either way but I give a slight edge to ISU. Of course we are all partisans here and everyone generally thinks more highly of their team before the season, including Hawk fans

Wow, not as crazy as I would have been led to believe by your previous post. I would consider this pretty tame if you pulled it from CyFan, not much more than some opinions that have about a 50/50 probablility of being true.

How about this, on ISU not being ranked in the preseason poll:

KU lost their top 2 scorers, and they didn't even replace them with 2 players as talented and experienced as KL and Clyburn. It is OK to point out the disrespect that this ISU team is receiving from the media.

That statement may be way off base but its not like its some delusional dream of grandeur involving the sweet 16 or a a conference championship. They are coming off a season in which they won a game in the NCAA tourney over a pretty damn good program, and then played the NC's fairly tough when they were expected to implode/explode by many around here well before it got to that point. That can carry over for a program, no matter who is gone from the team.

I would normally agree with you, but in those two games it was Royce White and 4 other guys. He was a beast in the tournament, and I don't see them replacing him so easy.

I didn't go that deep, really didn't have to, it is quite possible that we have different opinions of crazy. You saw the post about Gatens and White right?

You are crazy.... ISU will miss white more than Iowa will miss Gatens. White was drafted #16 in the NBA draft and Gatens is playing on some random team overseas. Iowa had Gatens and barely made the NIT.

I think it's a tad bit more tough to replace the #16 draft pick in the NBA.

I'm just saying the ISU program has momentum, and I think we can all easily see what kind of force that can be because we have it as well right now.

What's driving the Clyburn hype is partially Royce White saying that Clyburn was the best player on the team, and Hoiberg has made similar comments about his potential. Who knows what will happen, but he should be good. I know it means very little, but he absolutely tore it up in the summer league.

Lets also remember that ISU wasn't exactly lighting the world on fire last year early in the season.

They were still figuring of how to play w/o a PG and how to use RW.

This team will play a completely different brand of bball, playing much faster and should be better defensively.

Losing Royce, Scotty and Allen might hurt offensively but Korie Lucious, Clyburn and Percy/Booker will be a net improvement defensively.

LOL just like Bobby Lutz claimed Chris Allen was the best player he had ever coached. Just like that, right?

Here is my take on ISU. Look they have some talent, there is no disputing that. The issue that I see with them is not having White. Now that said, if you didn't see Clyburn when he played at Utah...he could be a very good player, he was good at Utah. He is an all-around player and can score in a few ways. Can ISU score enough is the question...Luscious is not a reliable scorer and Babb is a question mark as well. PG play at ISU is still going to be a question mark...part of Korie's problem at MSU and with Izzo were being able to play within the offense.

I think the game comes down to who is the tougher team on the boards and the 50/50 ball situations, whoever wins those battles will win the game. I like the experience and proven scoring of Iowa better than ISU, but Clyburn hasn't played yet, if ISU wins Clyburn will be the difference.

I like Iowa to win, but close.

That's a pretty fair assessment. I'm betting that Clyburn is the real deal. You guys will have a true home court advantage for the first time in awhile, though.

I don't think ISU will be as good as last year. They do have some talent and this may be the year that Fred Hoiberg has to do his best coaching job. I expect Iowa to win but I'm wondering who is going to be the leader on the Cyclones. If someone steps up like Royce did last year it will be a hard fought game. Go Hawks, we need to get on the winning side of the games with the Cyclones.
