X's and O's

I got to thinking (scary I know) after watching a guy talk about K-State.
If you had to have a coach be one or the other, which would you rather have?
#1 a coach who is very good at the x's and o's. Who is top at teaching the game, teaching technique and execution.
OR
#2 a coach who seems to bring out the best in everyone, one who says, when it comes to being the next star "why not you"? One who the players would run thru a brick wall for. A builder, so to speak.
(I get that you need to be good at both, but for the sake of arguement.....)
I am not saying anything about our staff and do not want to stir that pot. My point is if you look at ISU, K-state, and countless others, they are winning with less. HOW? It is not facilities and it is not top recruits.

Many of you know my story, I have never gotten the most out of myself or anyone else by doing anything more than throwing out the word can't and steady and consistent praise and encourgement. The problem with this approach is you have to really get to know the people you are dealing with. You have to get into their heads and find the "buttons" that drive them. It is a much more personal way of doing it, but in the end that is what makes it all worth it. I read where KF said something about doing a better job of screening recruits, reading thru the BS and finding out what kind of heart/drive a person has, and what makes them click, this a skill and not an easy one to master.

I am not trolling. I am saying the same thing in a different way. PSU "has a new coach, new O and the same talent level". What do they have that we don't? What does ISU have? There is something. Fry was very good at that part of it.

Nobody huh. Well let me continue by saying word out of Nebraska is it is getting hot over there. If they go down this weekend it will go into melt down mode. A team that has talent and facilities, but has a coach who coaches, how he would respond, to said coaching.

I would also like to revisit something I said long ago.

E
F
F
O
R
T
.......T I M E

The arc = success.
Now to take a kid who played infront of a 1,000 people and bring him up to playing infront of 100,000 is tough duty. That kid has 5 years on the time side. Then again how long does an avg coach last? KF has gone thru 2 full cycles? Almost 3, and is the longest running coach in the B10. The time side of the equation is pretty well set for coaches and players. It is a fact of life for all of us no matter what your gig, you only have so long to put your stamp on things. The only thing you can control is effort. That is called being accountable and doing your job, be it player, coach or the guy who changes your oil.

Old Dude did you fill your tag yet.

No. I was talking with some others and they are pretty hard to get close to this time of year. I have some land lined up for next year that backs up to blm and has a herd that goes thru it, guy that owns it has taken them from sitting in his shop. The herds around me are there because it is protected land. Darn things are not as dumb as one would think. :) If I wanted a deer, it would be easy, but I only like the sticks and sausage and that seems like a waste.

I don't have any idea what is going on here.

Why not? Where did you get lost?
The other day I had to explain to a kid how my parents generation came up with "radar ranges" and ac for cars. I then proceeded to explain how my generation just landed an suv sized rover on Mars. I then asked him what his generation was going to do, what is their "stamp" going to be? Or was it just going to ride coat tails.
If I could explain that to him, I am sure I can explain whats going on here to you. :)

His generation's stamp will be laser technology. And dealing with poverty while paying the benefits of those who came before him who were so skilled at inventing A/C, radar ranges and Mars rovers that they couldn't grasp simple mathematics or actuarial science.

I doubt that! Have you talked to very many 20- 30 year olds lately? It really is sad how smart they think they are. Maybe it could be they pick me to talk to because they think I would be an easy way to boost their self perpetuation. Sometimes things are not what they appear and I am more then happy to show them that. :)

It is not a new phenomenon that young people think they are smarter than olddudes.

I thought it just took a weiner dog or a pork chop to entice them.

I know. I have always said that is one of the biggest down falls of humans. We just cant seem to listen and for that reason we make the same mistakes as those before us.
When I turned 21, one of my favorite places to go was the VFW or the Eagles Club. I used to sit there and buy the "old dudes" beers and listen to what they had to say. I still enjoy talking to or I should say listening to intelligence and knowledge.

Sorry AHawk I am a little slow today. Everybody around here has elk on the brain. After ac had words with them, they got a real rope to tie it up with and they keep it inside way more. I am glad it worked out this way, because I did not want to have to do it anyway. We will see if it lasts, I guess.
