BTN releases men’s hoops conference TV schedule

Wrong again. TV execs get paid to make their network money. Wisconsin draws eyeballs because they always play in intense winning games. Iowa is irrelevant.

I assume by the ISU reference you are referring to Matt Thomas? Wrong again. Matt Thomas isn't our states best recruit, that honor belongs to Bronson Koenig who was recruited heavily by Roy Williams and Coach K. He chose Wisconsin. We didn't even offer Matt Thomas until very late in the game. That alone is enough to tell you we were lukewarm on him.

Iowa Basketball a decade of irrelevance and counting.....

CBS has Thomas higher: 2013 College Basketball Recruiting Player Rankings - CBSSports.com

Scout has Thomas as the #56 player nationally and #11 SG, and Koenig as the #25 SG: Scout.com: Men's Basketball Recruiting

ESPN has Koenig as the #92 recruit and Thomas as the #32 ranked player.

Rivals has Thomas checking in at #55 and Koenig at #70

Yea, the nation loves watching games scored under 55. The real ratings come in with ACC/Big East, even though Big Ten probably has more talent.

But aren't you a little late trying to call Iowa irrelevant? This isn't Lickliter Era anymore. And if Iowa is irrelevant, what does that make Wisconsin? You guys were 0-2 vs. the Hawkeyes last year. Yaaa buddy. Maybe you should head over to Penn State forum to be cocky.l

AB has no use for facts, as he has demonstrated over and over again. He's a very insecure individual, especially when it comes to Wisconsin basketball being overtaken in the B10 pecking order by Iowa in the upcoming season. He relies on a sort of made up reality to get him through each day.

not only is thomas rated higher than koenig by every major service, wisconsin will have at least 6 games that are available online-only this winter. clearly ESPN and the BTN love them!

No facts? Wisconsin has 14 nationally televised games, Iowa has 4. Iowa is irrelevant to the majority of the hoops world. It's evident that Wisconsin is highly relevant.

You can measure a recruit by who is recruiting them. UNC and Roy Williams desperately wanted Bronson Koenig and offered. Duke and Coach K desperately wanted Bronson Koenig and offered him. He chose Wisconsin. We didn't even offer Matt Thomas until after the season and by then ISU and others had been recruiting him for much longer. He wasn't a top priority recruit for us.

Hahahaha......so BOBO offered a local kid months ago and lost him to ISU, while probably recruiting him for years. A program that has been down for years takes him away from a perennial top program, one that you tell us is a power in today's BB. You would think that a coach and program that is a good as you say it is could keep an in state kid home over a lowly program like ISU.....

No, Iowa State has a legit charismatic coach and has been NCAA tournament in the last freaking decade.

Has Iowa?!!

Goshawks, as someone that lives in KC, I have a hard time believing that you got MOST of the non-con games on Metrosports before 2006. And if you didn't/don't have Time Warner then you didn't/don't get Metrosports. So, it wasn't like the entire market had access to that channel at that time, if it was as you describe.

Besides, were you to invest in the ESPN Fullcourt package back then you pretty much got every game, period, as I recall. Alas, they were not HD, so the BTN coming in with HD was a pretty big upgrade.

As someone living in KC since 1989, I would take issue with someone who thought they had better Iowa hoops coverage before BTN came along. And even if you did, from the standpoint of using BTN as a marketing arm for the schools and conference, there is really no comparison between before and after. It's just that there are a lot of people that complain if something isn't the way they remember it from the good old days.

I won't sit here and say that everything is as good or better now. Iowa had a following that gave us coverage of many things that a majority of B10 schools probably didn't have. But as someone from northwest Iowa I am well aware that basketball coverage on over the air stations out of Sioux City had fallen to that market. Even in Iowa, in the northwest corner, they have been better off with BTN than before. Someone can correct me if I am wrong, but based upon what friends and family have told me I believe that is an accurate statement.

As I said, I won't sit here and say everything for Iowa is as good or better. But all things considered, it is. And I guess I have better things to do than to sit around and whine about this six years later.

I got all the non network football games and a lot more of the basketball games than I do now. You call it whining when I say I watched more games 6 years ago. I'm just telling it how it is.

You say that you have better things to do then whine, congratulations. I hope to have an awesome life like you some day, but when I do I'll be too busy to write a long post whining about someone I think is whining about not being able to watch his team.

Here's to you finding a new hobby to occupy your time and Go Hawks!

And yet Iowa beat you twice then to top it off you lose a top 150 recruit to them.....he decided that paying his way at Iowa was preferable to going to Wisky and playing for BOoooooooooring U for free.....

activebadger might also be a northern iowa fan as he seems to overlook the fact that his program was complete dogshit for an extended amount of time and has only recently become relevant. iowa was making the dance with regularity when bucky was having a whopping 8 winning seasons over 5 decades.
