BTN releases men’s hoops conference TV schedule

Do games on the Hawkeyesports.com that have the tv coverage listed as "BTN or BTN.com" mean you can watch it on either one or that they haven't decided yet on whether to show it on tv or just internet?

That's the thing I HATE about the BTN, they have worthless programming other than games..nobody watches that crap. There's no reason not to show all the games, at least on tape delay. I live out of market in Kansas City and before they came along I got most of the non conference games on a local cable channel. Now when I have the BTN I get to watch fewer games!! Burn in Heck Big Ten Network!!! I hate you.

certainly can relate. no idea what the reason is for some of the programming. sometimes they'll be airing a softball game on tape delay when a live b-ball game is going on. so weird.

I'm hoping the optimism surrounding this season is enough to get more of the non conf. on the BTN. I seem to remember last year every conference game was nationally televised on BTN or ESPN, am I right on that or are most ESPN basketball games only shown in the market? Cause if that's the case I'm seeing wayyyy to many Syracuse/Duke games for living in the Iowa City market...

Goshawks, as someone that lives in KC, I have a hard time believing that you got MOST of the non-con games on Metrosports before 2006. And if you didn't/don't have Time Warner then you didn't/don't get Metrosports. So, it wasn't like the entire market had access to that channel at that time, if it was as you describe.

Besides, were you to invest in the ESPN Fullcourt package back then you pretty much got every game, period, as I recall. Alas, they were not HD, so the BTN coming in with HD was a pretty big upgrade.

As someone living in KC since 1989, I would take issue with someone who thought they had better Iowa hoops coverage before BTN came along. And even if you did, from the standpoint of using BTN as a marketing arm for the schools and conference, there is really no comparison between before and after. It's just that there are a lot of people that complain if something isn't the way they remember it from the good old days.

I won't sit here and say that everything is as good or better now. Iowa had a following that gave us coverage of many things that a majority of B10 schools probably didn't have. But as someone from northwest Iowa I am well aware that basketball coverage on over the air stations out of Sioux City had fallen to that market. Even in Iowa, in the northwest corner, they have been better off with BTN than before. Someone can correct me if I am wrong, but based upon what friends and family have told me I believe that is an accurate statement.

As I said, I won't sit here and say everything for Iowa is as good or better. But all things considered, it is. And I guess I have better things to do than to sit around and whine about this six years later.

DAMN! Thawki goin hard in teh paint!

I feel like (in SE Iowa) we've suffered due to BTN. I remember being able to watch virtually every game on ESPN+ (channel 2), now not so much. Maybe I have the wrong impressions though, and my memory has faded...

We better be on ESPN quite a bit then, cause it seems like we aren't on the BTN schedule too often...

Another piece of evidence that Wisconsin is a more exciting program to people around the country than Iowa is is reflected in the # of nationally televised games (ESPN, ESPN2 and CBS) compared to Iowa. I'm not counting ESPNU or the BTN. Wisconsin has 14 nationally televised games..........

.............Iowa has 4.

TV execs don't put teams on their network that aren't going to draw eyeballs. Iowa doesn't.

ACTIVEBADGER is back!! TV execs don't care if a team is exciting or not, they care if they win. Teh Baggers do win, so they are on TV....and they are boring as sh!t to watch. Hey, I'd be happy if my team won while playing boring a$$ basketball.....the fact still remains that teh Baggers play boring a$$ basketball.

BTW, how did Bo, let ISU takes the state of Wisconsin's best player in the 2013 class??? Oh yeah, because he didn't want to play boring freaking basketball.....

How did it feel when you lost both to us last year? Did you feel empty inside? Maybe a little bit alone? How about when Uthoff left? I bet you wish Lick was still here right?

Bo is our b!tch now.

12/31 vs. IU ESPN2
1/10 vs. MSU ESPN or ESPN2
1/13 @ Northwestern ESPNU
1/31 vs. PSU ESPNU
2/14 @ PSU ESPNU
2/21 @ Nebraska ESPN or ESPN2

getting a satellite truck and crew to a game is an expensive proposition. not a smart financial decision by the BTN to do it for every non conference game.

its my understanding that mediacom now has direct fiber optic connections to carver and hilton so they can come in and produce the game and it can be put on BTN.com, as well as mediacom connections with much lower expense.

Wrong again. TV execs get paid to make their network money. Wisconsin draws eyeballs because they always play in intense winning games. Iowa is irrelevant.

I assume by the ISU reference you are referring to Matt Thomas? Wrong again. Matt Thomas isn't our states best recruit, that honor belongs to Bronson Koenig who was recruited heavily by Roy Williams and Coach K. He chose Wisconsin. We didn't even offer Matt Thomas until very late in the game. That alone is enough to tell you we were lukewarm on him.

Iowa Basketball a decade of irrelevance and counting.....

How's Danny O'Brien working out for you? I hear he's going to be a stud.
