Saban Suggests Penn State Tickets Should Be Taxed To Pay For Scandal - Forbes

All from article:

"Maybe they ought to tax all the tickets that they sell on athletics and give the proceeds to some child abuse organization. Or something like that, rather than worrying about some punishment that is really going to have no positive affect on anything."

So wow.

There is so much wrong with Saban’s suggestion that I almost don’t know where to start. I’ll go with the obvious: tax shouldn’t be used as a punishment.
And that’s what Saban is suggesting: a punitive tax on the fans of Penn State University. The fans that weren’t in the room when Sandusky – the real villain in this horrible story – committed his crimes. The fans that weren’t in the room when discussions were had about how to “deal” with Sandusky. The fans that weren’t in the room when the decision was made not to contact the authorities.

And punish them, why? To benefit “some child abuse organization”? The tie-in couldn’t be more tenuous. And to an outsider (like me), it sounds patronizing. It has this feel of throwing money at a problem to make it go away. This is a problem that can’t be solved by throwing money at it. It’s bigger and deeper than that.

Which is perhaps why Saban followed up by saying, “I probably shouldn’t have said that. I’m just a regular old coach.”

Why would anyone care about what Nick Saben thinks anyway? All he should care about is how many recruits he is going to sign this season.

maybe tax was the wrong word that he used. i believe what he is saying (imo) that the school should have to give up some of the proceeds from ticket sales and football to a child abuse charity. i very well could be reading into the comment too much but i think he meant taxing the school not the fans.

obviously the punishment wont have an immediate positive effect. It should serve as a deterrent for any future school to put football over integrity.

Given the long history of the NCAA punishing schools for cheating, I seriously doubt that.

So what do you suggest they do? Granted, Saban comes of as an ash in the quote, but he always sounds that way.

WTF - Its nice to see this board provides you an outlet for your over inflated sense of self-importance.

Saban had to say what he did, just in case the NCAA comes sniffing around Bama again so he can ask to be taxed instead of losing bowl games and scholarships...hmm...I just thought of something...If the NCAA ever did reduce an SEC school's scholarships by 10, would that just mean they'd be on an even level with the rest of the NCAA after they over recruit by 10?
