Woodbury gets schooled

I could be wrong but Woodbury is on the team for his defensive presence not so much his scoring at this point. He will get the occasional put back, but he is here to rebound and block shots. I have no problem with that.

Big guys in their freshman year always seem to have fouling issues. Like Cole said, he just needs to figure out what he can and can't do. Having a matchup like Cole early on is good for him. He now has a good early outlook of what he needs to work on.

I compare Woody's role to Jared Reiner's role as a frosh/sophmore. Rebound, defend, pass out of the post, run the floor, some garbage buckets...just be a presence in the paint.

I think he is going to be just fine in that role for us,and it will help the team win, which is the object of the exercise.

I like how he has the good attitude, even while getting hammered by stronger post men like Mel and Cole, keeps battling, and not trying to do too much...taking what is there. Court savvy is a huge bonus, and Gesell/Woody have it.

He didn't play very good defense. Cole, a guy who averaged 8 points for Iowa, put up 19 on Woody's team.

Im talking about Adams presence in the paint. Cole is a seasoned pro.. Woody is a highschool kid. Give him a break. Its one game of summer league ball. Nobody plays great defense

Not concerned at all at this point. A big man in high school is a big man who can largely use his size to advantage against shorter, smaller, less athletic competition. In D-1, he is going to have to be stronger, smarter, craftier, quicker, more athletic against competition that is just is equal to him in every category and perhaps above. Adam will get it; it may take a year or two but I have no doubt he will be able to elevate his game with proper coaching and be one of the top players in the league by his junior and senior seasons.

Did you attend the game? Tell us more, please.
Where did Cole burn Woody? In the paint backing him down or out on the perimeter shooting jumpers. Did Woody not move his feet on defense or was he just slow to get out to the perimeter. Give us a real report, please.
thanks.

That's a lot to ask of Ghostie...

I don't want to be over-reactive or anything, but, is it too late to revoke his scholarship?

AW will excel in Fran's system. He's a great passer esp for a big man. Picture AW getting defensive RBs and starting the break and running the floor. Alter shots. He doesn't need to ave 15 pts

No, I wasn't at the game. I was responding to a poster who said that Woody will be a good defender next season. I could be wrong, but in a game where his counterpart scores 20% of his team's points and gets him into foul trouble, I inferred that he had trouble on the defensive end. Perhaps it was presumptuous of me to say that his defense wasn't "very good", and take that statement with a grain of salt, but I am comfortable reaching that conclusion based on the evidence at hand.

He shouldn't be allowed on the team. (chanting) Kick him off, Kick him off. Kick him off.

Lol, yah just take him out back and shoot him. :D Woodbury will be just fine as he gets experience and builds his upper body and leg strength.
