Iowa State Cyclone football

I like how many here have distorted what a number of Cyclone fans think, and twist it to represent all cyclone fans. As an ISU student myself, and an ISU fan, I would gladly welcome fringe fans and fans that don't attend the University itself. It's a sign of a successful athletic department. I'm envious that Iowa was able to grab those fringe fans while ISU was down for many years. Many ISU fans share the same opinion as me. Don't let the morons that post on CF, or the number of idiotic ISU posters such as ISUer let you twist what normal, rational ISU fans think.

It seems like a good portion of your fan base goes to the "tavern hok" card quite a bit. You could be right, it may be a small minority, but it is a very vocal minority.

Yes, the weird thing is having "tavern" fans is actually a complement to a program, since only successful, popular programs have people that become fans by choice instead of some sort affiliation. This can be seen in the number of "Tavern Domers", "TavernSooners", "TavernBucks", "TavernTide", and TavernHusker" fans all over the country. As you point at, what some ISU fans are really expressing when throwing the 'tavernhawk' name is around is just jealousy, since no one really wants or chooses to be an ISU fan. They are born, marry, or enroll into it.

Oh it is a very vocal minority, and they are the same ones that fill the "little brother" or obsessive role. Which is one of my biggest pet peeves.

Agree. I do know quite a few cyclone fans that choose to be cyclone fans while being in a hawkeye fandom filled family. Not a huge proportion. I'd fully enjoy if ISU was able to bring in more fringe fans if they can keep the momentum going in football and basketball.

The "alumni rule" is a well known rule. The tavernhawk argument is lame because anyone that didn't graduate from a school with a DI football program or didn't graduate at all has a right to cheer for whatever DI team they would like to.

HOWEVER. Graduating from ISU and being a Hawkeye fan, or graduating from Iowa and being an ISU fan, is pretty lame. I don't care about "if whichever shool had my study program" garbage. Sacrifices have to be made, either in your study program or in your fandom. If you're too much of a coward to make the sacrifice one way or the other and go against the Alumni rule then you should have a Scarlet Letter.

I'm lame. I've been a Hawkeye fan since I was two, but went to ISU. Every day I lived there, my love for the Hawkeyes grew. If you want to talk about sacrifices, live in Ames for four years. If you moved to India, would you magically become Hindu (sorry if you are Hindu)? I'm from Iowa, not Ames.

Yes, but I am to understand that Iowa State Cyclones are another "Big Time" program in the state, and they have one of the best coaches in the country, and they are quickly rising to prominence. I figured it would be a topic of interest during the long summer.

Likely chance of defeat? Playing the '85 Bears was a likely chance of defeat. The Alamo faced a likely chance of defeat. I just hope the Hawks have enough players remaining after the game for the B1G season. That would be a victory in my book.

I have been talking to some locals who are fans of Iowa State. They seem to be very optimistic of their chances for a successful season in 2012. If find this in stark contrast to fans of the Iowa Hawkeyes, who seem to have a more dire outlook.
