I'm real excited for next year. White is just fun to watch.

But the Daily Iowan's Freshman of the Year didn't seem to let the attention go to his head.

She also won female athlete of the year, and we didn't want people doubling up, regardless of their sport. She holds five school records, and set all of those records multiple times throughout the year. She posted a pair of top-5 finishes at the Big Ten meet, and finished ninth in the mile at NCAA's.

White's more high-profile, but nobody except for McNutt had a better year on campus.

It didn't get changed because White is high-profile. It got changed because Stiughton will also be featured in Thursday's paper. We'd basically run the same story twice in four days.

Why couldn't you just put the Frosh of the year stuff into teh existing article?

Because we have 5 awards (frosh, coach, male, female, story of the year), one for each day of finals week. With all of our writers having finals to deal with, and no games to cover, the paper gets tough to fill. We can't afford to have two full-length stories rolled into one, because then we've got space on one day and no way to fill it with original content. We can fill it with AP stories, but that's an absolute last resort.

I honestly couldn't tell you exactly how many people work at the paper. But we have 14 who work in sports, not including DITV.
