Iowa Football Bringing Sexy Back

Again I believe Nike actually has models for the uniforms, they won't make Kurt walk down the runway in the uniform.

He's still gonna have to take some pictures. Also, as I mentioned earlier, he's going to have to consider the stupid options and approve the final POS. They're obviously going to send the worst designs first, hoping someone will be asleep at the wheel and approve some stupid Oregon-looking thing. He'll turn that down, then they'll put forth some SMU-type thing, then some Boise thing, and after twelve revisions later, they'll go with the Alabama-type hardly-any-different-but-still-somehow-a-million-times-more-awesome-because-it's-PRO-COMBAT!!!!! final version. Meanwhile, Kurt's wasted an hour or two with all this. Then, he'll have to do the photoshoot for the press release or whatever.

Exactly, the ProCombat line actually refers to the uniform material and fit, it has nothing to do with what the uniform looks like. I'd like to see us go all black at some point, we've done throwbacks, the USA hawkeye, so it's not like we've never worn alternate uniforms.

Well, if it doesn't have to do with what the uniform looks like, then why the discussion? I don't think anyone would have a problem with having a well fitting uniform made with good material.

You and I know that's not what it's about.

God forbid we cater to the more talented athletes in exchange for improved recruiting results. Yes, I know it won't make our recruiting classes look like those of LSU or Bama just by changing the uniforms. If it improves recruiting at all, though, it's worth it. That doesn't mean you have to have a million different combinations like Oregon either, you don't have to make it a gimmick.

Exactly. No one cares how the things fit or specifically what it's made of. Those things change all the time.

For Nike, that's EXACTLY what it's about. They put out crazy designs to draw attention to their product, which is the material. When you have a team wearing those uniforms, there's a lot of talk about them (in other words, advertising). Nike isn't trying to pitch the idea of schools permanently changing to these designs (outside of Oregon, and that doesn't count). Long-term, their goal is to get schools to start ordering permanent uniforms made out of Pro Combat material.

But schools are not required to wear the wacked-out designs. And all you have to tell a potential recruit is "We're going to wear Pro Combat for a game this fall," and their ears ***** up.

They do, but not all Nike schools get the same level of quality uniforms. There's several different levels of uniforms that Nike provides, that's why a couple of years ago Iowa St couldn't even get the right shade of red for their uniforms. So if Nike wants to give us a higher quality uniform and we have to/get to wear new uniforms for one game, why not?

Bull-effing-ess. Nike could get schools to order the exact same design with new whatever-super-awesome-space-age fabric without resorting to the awful redesigns. There's no reason they can't. The point is for them to sell the look and more jerseys to the school and to idiot jersey-wearing fans.

If the material was so super-daddgummed-awesome and such an improvement, it'd sell itself. It's just a gimmick.

Let's get Dallas Cowboy cheerleader-style uniforms for the cheerleaders (female ones only).

That sounds awful. How about the team just keeps the uniforms as they are and focuses on being a better football team? Every second Kurt has to think about how many stripes and what specific shade of glitter to add is a second he can't spend thinking about actual important things.

Oooooh! Glitter! Now you have my attention!

I think that crap is ugly as well but my son and his buddies......... WITH OUT FAIL......... like teams that wear those uni's and no amount of persuasion will convince them that they are ugly. Pretty sure that we recruit mostly high school age kids...... can't hurt

We're all too old to have any freaking idea what 18-year-old recruits care about.

1. That's not true in all cases.
2. It's not exactly a secret that high school-aged kids tend to like these things. When was the last time the majority of the 16-18 year old crowd liked the old school look (relative to their time) over the new, flashy ****.
