It was a mystery at the time, but IIRC, he decided to transfer during the Gmac era (or at the time Gmac was leaving) which was nothing new for several players per year to bolt.

Last minute, he had 2nd thoughts, but Hoiberg basically said that ship had sailed already.

Either way, he was pretty good and we wanted him to stay obviously.

Probably a little of both. If you're not going to see any PT because either you're not good enough to compete in the B12, or maybe your style doesn't mesh with what Hoiberg wants to do, then it might very well be that they player feels it's in his best interest also.

So is Freddy going to run a two way street on transfers? Bring them in constantly and push guys out constantly to make room for the new transfers?

He might just set a new standard for college bb roster-manipulation,as some have suggested.
I will say he is bringing that NBA feel to the ISU bb program...re-shaping the roster on an annual basis with free agents. Kind of like a NBDL franchise. I hope all these guys graduate.
