Another Lane Violation (Notre Dame)

Here is the video from tonight if anyone missed it:[ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SiPODjwgPvA]Notre Dame lane violation vs. Xavier. Blown call? Controversial? - YouTube[/ame]The guy didn't even come close to getting the rebound(if it was a miss).Seems like a dumb rule to me. It's funny because nobody has ever heard of this rule until yesterday.I'm sure it has happened plenty of times during the regular season. Funny how it has never been called before.

wait, fans don't know the rules of the game and complain all the time anyway? I'm shocked...

I think good quality officials do try to take themselves out of the result in very close contested games, you will see it today. Game gets under 10 seconds to play they will swallow the whistle and let the team decide the outcome.

I hate when refs do this. A foul is a foul whether its in the 1st half or there is 10 seconds left in the game.

The teams are deciding the outcome of the game. One team decided to get aggressive and take it to the hoop with time winding down and the other team decided to play poor defense and foul.

its a good rule, and it was a correct call. nothing to see here other than a bunch of people who don't let the fact they don't understand the rules get in the way of them complaining about the officiating. I see it four nights a week during the basketball season.

the announcers said the rule was whenthe ball is released. I was corrected and it was probably the correct call, but it would not have impacted the game, because he made it.

The call did impact the game. The free throw was taken off the board & the ball was given to Xavier. Also, the Notre Dame player did not get to take another free throw.

Like I said let the players decide the ending of the game. Creighton Official swallowed the whistle and the ND game ended because officials decided to blow his with 2.8 seconds on a made free throw to cut the game to 1 with another FT attempt coming. LMAO. The game ended on that officials call and what a ridiculous call that was. Sorry I maybe in the minority but I think that is weak!!

By your logic, if the free throw was missed, Notre Dame got the rebound, attempted a three to win the game & there was obvious goal tending on the shot; the refs should ignore the goal tending. You can't have it both ways. According to your logic that would be weak.

Either you are clueless or a rabid Irish fan.

That is fine, we think differently when it comes to closing out a game. You seen it both ways yesterday. Creighton game was clear foul against Alabama and should have been shooting 3, which most likely would have won the game for them. Notre Dame lost on a what I would clasify a very ticky tacky violation. To each his own.

=We agree, I was saying the violation didn't impact the game because he made it.

Some of you act like you have never heard the term let the players decide the game?? So then I would say don't complain when it happens to Iowa.. I guarntee that if that was Iowa yesterday that lost that way, this board would be lit up like a X-Mas tree about letting the players decide the outcome.. That is a FACT!! So don't throw the clueless crap or I'm a rabid Irish fan crap at me Columbus, just because I would rather see the game decided by the players in such a close game.

The Notre Dame call was so ticky, tacky. The official calls that with 2.8 seconds to go in the game and after the Notre Dame player makes the first and can tie the game with the second, sorry that was weak.

Rules are rules, and all that, but the fact that he made the free throw should have been taken into consideration. The alleged infraction was very close to being a noncall, especially with the game on the line.....

If Every infraction in a game is called, the game would never end. When referees pick and choose when to call them, they have supreme control of the outcome, not the players. I watched the video and paused it over and over, and every player was inside the paint and the ball appeared to be in the basket when the ND player entered the paint. It was almost instantaneous.....

That is how it seemed to me, at any rate.....

If I was an Alabama fan, I would be irrtiated by that noncall, whether or not the shot would have gone in.....

That call I am OK with because I wanted Creighton to win, just to see them have the opportunity to play UNC. Creighton almost seems like an Iowa team to me because of the many Iowans on the team.....

I also wanted Norte Dame to win to preserve whatever remained of my shredded brackets. So I am irritated by the call, legitimate or not. It was so close that it should have been a no call. He did make the free throw and it should have been a moot point.....

Just my opinion, idle speculation attempting to soothe the tattered and torn USA Today bracket pages, that I rolled into a ball and tossed into the trash recepticle with extraordinary accuracy......

Done.....

Slime.....

Right? People who complain about the refs every game are also the people who have no clue what they are talking about. It is unreal.

Dude, you are arguing that the officials should ignore a black and white rule... I don't understand how you aren't getting the difference with this all? The officials are inserting themselves in the game just as much when they ignore blatant violations.

Well said Jack.

In the Notre Dame game your damn right. That was weak call and at that time in the game shouldn't be called..

It can be frustrating how the game can be called differently in the last minutes sometimes. But at the same time you don't like to see games end in tick tack calls. There are many times defenses take advantage of this and drape players in the last seconds. For instance in the ending of the Mizzou game the shooter trying to get a open look had his defender inches from him, would he be better to just pull up for the shoot and draw contact or continue on and take the lean away shot?

NBA has revealed how much money can be made for refs to be involved in gambling, I'm sure it has happened in NCAA tournment games before. It may be a rule, but unless a ref has lot to gain by calling it, I dont see how too many refs would want to put the attention on them self with so few seconds left. No calls are part of the game too, otherwise, basketball games would go on too long and defense would be incredibly boring.

this is just stupid. a player entering the lane from the top of the key gets a huge advantage, you can't disregard it just because the shot was made. the violation and the consequence are there for a reason.

Not really going out on a limb here Predator. This board is lit up after every Iowa loss in any sport, no matter how close the outcome.
