Gatens' 4-game Stretch..Best Ever?

I was thinking about this after the game last night:

Gatens' is now 24-33 (73%) from 3 in the last 4 games. Is it possible this is the best 4-game stretch of 3pt shooting in NCAA history (min 20 3pt attempts) ?

I looked up a few great 3-pt shooters in last 10 years and couldn't find anyone close to 73% over 4 games. I know Steve Kerr still has the % record from 87-88 season when he went 114-199 (57%) but I can't seem to find a game log from his season.
 


When Matt was on his 12 in a row streak someone said the record for consecutive made from the arc was NW's Todd Leslie who had 15 in a row,so maybe he had a four game shooting record around that streak that was equal. Otherwise I would look at JJ Redick or IU's Matt Roth(altho he might not have 20 attempts) or even Kent McCausland.

I am wondering if it is true that Bobby Hansen told Matt about a mechanical issue on his release that has triggered this blitz? Like any good streak,you just do not ask how,but keep your head down and hope it continues...we need Matt to stay hot the next month.
 


You don't even have to go back a year to find someone that had a better four-game stretch. In the last four regular season games last year, Jon Diebler was 22 for 30.

Diebler shot 73.3 percent to Gatens 72.7 percent. I admit it is not much, but it is better. People seem to forget what a great shooter Diebler was. The Bucks aren't nearly as good this year without him. He shot over fifty-percent from beyond the arc last year.
 




Great find on Diebler...he was certainly a great shooter! I had checked Redick, Langdon, Curry, and some others that seemed more obvious to me at the time.

I did find Robert Vaden (Indiana 05-06 season) had a 4-game stretch of 16-22, which is same % as Gatens (72.7%).

Diebler actually had one bad game in his streak. He was 2 for 7 in one game. But he was 20 for 23 in the other three.
 


Diebler also had 2-3 NBA guys on his team that drew a lot of attention from defenders. Gatens has made some shots with guys all over him, off balance, getting fouled, etc.

True, but up until a week ago, Matt seemed more likely to miss the open look than the contested shots.

I'm not trying to take anything away from your boy Diebler because he was an outstanding shooter. That being said I will guarantee you he didn't have to work near as hard to get open as Gatens does.
 


Gatens stretch is the best shooting performance I can recall from an Iowa player in the three-point line era. that is certain

Diebler isn't "my boy." I all did was find someone who had a four-game stretch better than Gattens. You like others belittle his performance because he didn't play for a lousy Iowa team. It's not my fault.

Belittle like saying he is an outstanding shooter? You know the point and you know it is valid.

I know your point is valid. However, he did have a better four-game stretch. The question was not limited to players on teams with an RPI adjusted winning percentage of .453 or below.
 


What's really wierd is that Gatens and Diebler did it against the same 4 teams(Illinois, Indiana, PSU, and Wisky).

Yeah, & we think Iowa plays bad three-point defense. I didn't even realize it. Almost, but not exactly, a year a part.
