Refs at Carver.

This year it's just been terrible. That short of guy tonight was absolutely horrid. He had no clue what he was doing.

I'm not saying that's the reason why we lost but they were terrible tonight, especially late.

I thought it was well officiated. Some calls were not homer calls and could have been. Otherwise It seemed like the team that gave the most effort won.

This. I only saw the second half, but I saw only two calls/non-calls that looked questionable: a non-call on a possible over the back when White had position for a rebound, and the blocking call late on McCabe.

I've since learned that McCabe was in fact still sliding over and wasn't set. From my angle (directly to McCabe's left behind the basket), I couldn't see the slide, as he was moving directly toward me. So that was actually the right call. Not sure about the over the back.

I haven't seen the replay but there were a few questionable first half calls, mainly the travel on them that was actually called a foul on Iowa. I was told the over the back non call should have been called at the end but wasn't.

Edit: I watched the game at Carver.

I just remember very late when we made the stop on defense either white or oglesby was about to get the rebound until some guy came up over the back and slapped the **** out of their arm and then they got the ball back.

Big missed call.

At least on TV this appeared to be a surprisingly well-called game. The blocking call late on McCabe was absolutely the right one; on the replay you could see he clearly was sliding into the offensive player. The lack of an over-the-back call when White had position for the rebound was marginal; could have gone either way, depending on your angle.

The officiating did not cost Iowa this game.

By slapped his arm, you mean took the ball from a skinny freshman, then yeah, I saw that.

There's always gonna be "a few questionable calls." BFD. The game was called consistently, which is all you can ask.
Do we have to have these "the refs were terrible" crybaby threads after ever loss?

Yes. It's required starting with 3-4th grade youth basketball and continues to NBA basketball.

For God's sake, this is getting old, threads and comments on refs.

If you have watched any other games this year, it is the same thing, the officiating is so hit or miss. There are times where it truly makes a difference and last night was again, not one of those times.

My only complaint about the officiating really is that I guess I don't know what traveling is anymore. That is not just in Iowa games.

I don't mind if a dude catches the ball off of a screen up by the three point line and they are pretty much setting up half court offense and he happens to travel, if the don't call it. It slows down the flow of a game and the player doesn't receive much of an advantage by traveling.

On the other hand, refs never call travels on lay up and near the basket type plays when a travel does give the player a distinct advantage. My problem with college basketball is they call my first example a lot and not my second one and it makes the game boring.

I also hate carrying calls. They're also boring to watch and they are often just called at random.

not a hate on the ref thing. but i found the timing of the calls disturbing;
they called two fouls on Marble which by Fran's rule the kid sit the rest of the half, his 2nd foul was at the 7:21 mark when Iowa was up 11 and on the verge of taking full control of the game.
Cartwright had to come in and started out very sloppy as he was not into the flow.
the strange thing is the never called a foul on Marble the entire 2nd half,
the 2nd thing that bothers me is this is the 2nd straight game that McCabe is playing his best to have 1 foul going into halftime and foul out at a key point in the game, calling the game is a hard but they do have a direct impact on a game on when they do call the fouls

ok you all be the supervisor and tell them what a horrble job they do and tell them go home and deduct 100 dollars from every mistakes they make from their paychecks

I'd be interested to know how many of the frequent complainers have ever had a whistle in their mouths and have ever actually officiated a game. It's not as easy as it looks.
